🚨 TECH/SCAM TUESDAY: The Grandchild Scam

“Grandma, it’s me. I’m in trouble and I need money right away.”
It sounds scary and that's exactly the point.

Scammers may pretend to be a grandchild or other family member and claim there’s an emergency. They might say they’ve been arrested, were in an accident, lost their phone, or need money immediately.
They’re hoping you’ll panic and act before you have time to think.

🚩 Watch for these red flags:
• They contact you from an unfamiliar number
• They need money RIGHT NOW
• They ask you not to tell anyone
• They don’t want you to call them
• They ask for gift cards, cash, wire transfers, or other unusual payments

🛑 STOP. THINK. VERIFY.
Before sending anything, call your family member using a phone number you already know. If they don’t answer, contact another family member who can help you verify what’s happening.
💬 Help us spread the word! Share this post with a parent, grandparent, neighbor, or friend. One conversation could prevent someone from becoming a victim.

💛 THANKFUL THURSDAY: Behind-the-Scenes Hero 💛
A lot happens behind the scenes to keep Western Montana Transit moving. Today we're introducing one of the people helping make it happen! 🚌
🌟 Meet Megan, our new Transit Dispatcher & Administrative Assistant!
Megan is no stranger to community transportation. Before joining our team, she worked with the Human Resources Development Council in Bozeman, providing transportation services as both a driver and dispatcher.

For Megan, it’s about much more than getting someone from Point A to Point B.

💬 “I found a lot of joy working with the public and getting to know people in the community.”

Her goal when someone calls? To be a ray of light on the other end of the phone and make sure each person feels heard, understood, and taken care of. ❤️

And when she isn't helping keep our transit team organized and on the move, Megan and her family stay plenty busy! They run a ranch and pumpkin patch in St. Ignatius where they raise mules and horses. 🐴🎃

Today, we're thankful to have another caring person behind the scenes helping us serve our communities.

📚EDUCATIONAL WEDNESDAY: What Does Our Agency Actually Do?
You may have heard of us… but do you actually know what we do? 🤔
The answer is probably more than you think!

Our goal is to help older adults, people with disabilities, veterans, caregivers, and families throughout our communities find the support and resources they need to remain as independent as possible. ❤️

Depending on your needs, that might mean:

🏠 In-home support through homemaking and respite services
🚌 Transportation to help people get where they need to go
💳 Medicare guidance through our SHIP program
🤝 Caregiver support & resources for those caring for a loved one
🍎 Nutrition & food assistance resources
🎖️ Support and resources for Veterans
📋 Information & referrals when you aren't sure where to start
💙 Connecting people with local, state, and federal programs they may qualify for

And sometimes, our job is simply helping someone figure out who to call next.

You don't have to know the name of a program or exactly what kind of help you need before reaching out. That's what we're here for.

📱 TECH TUESDAY: 5 Facebook Scam Red Flags 🚩

Scammers are getting more convincing, and sometimes a fake post, message, or profile can look surprisingly real. before you click, reply, send money, or share personal information, watch for these 5 red flags:
🚩 1. They create a sense of urgency.
“Act NOW!” “Your account will be deleted!” or “You only have a few minutes!” Scammers want you to react before you have time to think.

🚩 2. They ask you to click a suspicious link.
Be cautious of links sent through Messenger or posted in comments — even when they appear to come from someone you know.

🚩 3. They ask for money, gift cards, or personal information.
Never send passwords, verification codes, banking information, Social Security numbers, or gift card numbers through Facebook or Messenger.

🚩 4. Something about the profile seems off.
Very few posts, a brand-new account, strange spelling, copied photos, or an unexpected friend request from someone you’re already friends with can all be warning signs.

🚩 5. It sounds too good to be true.
You probably didn't suddenly win a prize you never entered for — and a government agency or well-known company isn't likely to randomly offer you thousands of dollars through Facebook Messenger.
💡 When in doubt, STOP and VERIFY. Contact the person or organization another way before taking action.
