Exciting Progress at the Polson Fire Training Center!

A huge thank you to Ronan Fire Department and Chief Chris Adler for donating these shipping containers and helping get them delivered to us. We also want to thank the City of Polson Water and Street Departments for their help getting the containers set and on the ground.

Polson City Fire is excited to be moving forward with the next phase of our training center. This phase will add three live-fire training props:

• Dumpster fire prop
• Vehicle fire prop
• Structure fire prop

The shipping containers will be converted into training props using specially designed doors, windows, burn cells, and other components purchased from Taylor'd Containers Fire Training Props. Much of the installation and construction will be completed by our own volunteer firefighters.

These additions will give our firefighters a dedicated place to practice realistic fireground skills in a controlled training environment. Just as importantly, the facility will help us continue improving firefighter safety, readiness, and the service we provide to our community.

On August 5, the Polson City Fire Department and Polson Rural Fire District responded to two separate fires caused by vehicles parked on dry grass. Hot exhaust systems and catalytic converters can easily ignite dry vegetation, especially during periods of high fire danger.

On Wednesday August 5th, 2026, at approximately 2:18 PM the City of Polson Fire Department, and the Polson Rural Fire District by Automatic Aid, were dispatched to a report of smoke coming from a garage on the 300 block of 6th Ave West. Arriving units found smoke showing from a detached garage. The fire is believed to have originated on the exterior of the building in the grass and extended into the structure. A quick knockdown by City and Rural fire crews contained damage to a small area on the interior of the building. Fire suppression and overhaul operations continued until 3:30 PM. The fire cause is considered unintentional, and the building sustained minor damage.

In total three fire apparatus and seventeen personnel responded to the scene. No injuries were reported by the residents or firefighters.

Be careful when outdoors.

The City of Polson Fire Department had a busy weekend, responding to 12 calls for service while also providing staffing for the department’s First Aid Tent during the Cherry Festival.

Among the weekend’s incidents were two structure-related fires:

Early Sunday morning, firefighters responded to a fire on a dock at Lake View Village Apartments.
Later that day, crews were dispatched to what was initially reported as a grass fire near Lakeview Chiropractic. While units were responding, the incident was upgraded to a structure fire after it was determined that a porch had caught fire. Upon arrival, the first fire unit found a tourist using a garden hose to help keep the fire from spreading until firefighters could take over.

Both fires were quickly brought under control, limiting the damage. Each incident is estimated to have caused approximately $5,000 to $10,000 in property damage.

At this time, both fires remain under investigation and are believed to be accidental in nature.

The City of Polson Fire Department would like to thank the City of Polson Police Department, Polson Rural Fire Department, and Lake County 911 Dispatch for their assistance and coordination during these incidents.

A special thank you also goes to the dedicated volunteer firefighters of the City of Polson Fire Department, who responded to all 12 calls for service while also staffing the Cherry Festival First Aid Tent throughout the weekend. Their commitment and willingness to serve our community during a busy festival weekend are greatly appreciated.
