Samuel Hochstetler Guilty of Aggravated Murder
Meigs County Prosecuting Attorney James K. Stanley announces that on Jully 24, 2026, Samuel Hochstetler, 19, of Rutland, Ohio, entered a guilty plea to Aggravated Murder, an unclassified felony. This count alleged that Hochstetler purposely caused the death of Rosanna Kinsinger while committing r**e. The evidence showed that Kinsinger died from positional asphyxiation while Hochstetler engaged in nonconsensual s*xual conduct with her. Hochstetler was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. Hochstetler was also required to register as a violent offender and as a Tier III s*x offender.
Hochstetler was indicted on May 22, 2025 for numerous counts related to the March 12, 2025 death of Rosanna Kinsinger, 28, of Rutland, Ohio. These offenses included murder, kidnapping, r**e, and strangulation. If convicted of each of these offenses at trial, each would merge with the Aggravated Murder conviction for purposes of sentencing and would not change the sentencing range.
Hochstetler was scheduled for a jury trial on July 27, 2026. With Hochstetler’s conviction, that jury trial is vacated. Anyone scheduled for jury service in the Meigs County Court of Common Pleas on July 27, 2026 no longer needs to appear.
The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office, the Major Crimes Unit, the Meigs County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Ohio BCI, the Meigs County Coroner’s Office, the Gallia County Coroner’s Office, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, and Meigs EMS investigated this matter.
