The South Central Solid Waste Management District Office will be closed Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day. We will reopen Tuesday, September 8 at 8:00 a.m.

DNR informed us today they will be using the increase in tipping fees within the department, primarily for their wages.

🚨For Immediate Release:

Department of Natural Resources will adjust solid waste tonnage fees for landfills

Sanitary landfills and transfer stations will adjust from $2.11 to $2.18 per ton. Demolition and construction landfills will adjust from $1.40 to $1.45 per ton. The change does not modify local or county-level solid waste fees charged by county commissions or economic development authorities that are allowed under Missouri law.

🇺🇸The South Central Solid Waste Management District Office will be closed in observance of Independence Day beginning Thursday, July 2 at noon and all day Friday, July 3. We will reopen on Monday, July 6 at 8:00. 🇺🇸

The South Central Solid Waste Management District Office will be closed in observance of Juneteenth on Thursday, June 18 beginning at 12:00 as well as Friday, June 19, 2026. We will reopen on Monday, June 22, 2026 at 8:00.

The Missouri Stream Team Junior Leadership Program is a brand new activity designed by Stream Teams United. The four lesson program provides an opportunity for youth to learn about watersheds, water quality, pollution, the Missouri Stream Team program, and more! It creates an opportunity for youth to have the resources to interact with the place they live. It also provides an opportunity to interact with and work directly in your community! If you are interested in volunteering to assist with the pilot of this program, the program is planned to be delivered to the West Plains Boys and Girls Club on June 26th, July 2nd, July 14th, and July 16th. Active Missouri Stream Team volunteers are requested to assist and also observe the pilot of this new activity.

Program Times and Locations:
June 26th: Program delivery 9:00 AM - 11:15 AM, Located at the Boys & Girls Club of West Plains

July 2nd: Program delivery 9:00 AM - 11:15 AM, Located at the Boys & Girls Club of West Plains

July 14th: Program delivery 9:00 AM - 11:15 AM, Located at the Boys & Girls Club of West Plains

July 16th: Field trip between 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM, details TBD

Helping with the program could involve acting as an assistant for a day or learning the program and delivering it yourself! There are also other program dates planned if you want to volunteer but your schedule does not line up with any of the dates listed above. Any help that you want to provide will be greatly valued.

The South Central Solid Waste Management District Office will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026 in observance of Memorial Day, and will reopen Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 8:00.

♻️An electronic waste collection event was held in West Plains on Saturday, May 9 at the Materials Recycling Facility. Some of the items collected included tv's, laptops, monitors, and microwaves, etc.

Please note that the next electronic waste collection event will be held in the fall. No location has been determined yet. Please keep an eye on our page for more information.

A special thanks to Computer Recycling Center for their safe collection of the electronics and data destruction services.♻️

The South Central Solid Waste Management District is partnering with the City of West Plains to host an electronics waste collection event free of charge to residents of Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas, and Wright counties.

The event will be held at the West Plains Materials Recycling Facility (Transfer Station), at 1853 Old Airport Road.
