🇺🇸 Even though this year’s Memorial Day Parade was canceled, the spirit of remembrance was still strong in Pompton Lakes.

Many of our officers and proud members of the community gathered at the VFW for a meaningful Memorial Day service. We were especially proud to see our own PO Otto serve as Commander of the Post today.

On this solemn day, we honor and remember all the brave service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation. Their courage and selflessness will never be forgotten.

We’d like to wish everyone a safe and reflective Memorial Day. Thank you to all who serve, past and present.

Today we recognize Robert (Bob) McGrady.

Drafted into the U.S. Army on March 23, 1966, Bob served 6 years — 2 years on active duty and 4 in the reserves. He was deployed to Southeast Asia for 12 months and 29 days in defense of our nation.
Following his military service, Bob proudly served as a Pompton Lakes Police Officer with the PLPD for an incredible 42 years.

A lifelong servant to his country and community, Bob has carried on a family legacy as Master of Ceremonies for the VFW Memorial Day Parade for many years, taking over the honored role from his father. His dedication to honoring our fallen heroes has been a cornerstone of our community’s Memorial Day tradition.

Although tomorrow’s parade has been canceled due to weather, we still want to say a heartfelt thank you to Bob for his many years of service as Master of Ceremonies, and to the entire VFW for keeping the spirit of remembrance alive.

Thank you for your service, Bob. We are forever grateful.

Today we recognize Chief Anthony Rodriguez.

Shortly after the attacks on 9/11, Chief Rodriguez enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as an Infantryman. In 2003, he deployed with the 1st Marine Division and participated in combat operations during the initial invasion of Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The attached photos show him in theater during the early stages of the war and upon his return home.
His military service and combat experience forged the disciplined, resilient, and dedicated leader he is today.

On this third post of Military Appreciation Month, we thank Chief Rodriguez and extend our deepest gratitude to all veterans and active-duty service members for their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to protecting our nation.

May is Military Appreciation Month, and as we head into Memorial Day weekend, we want to recognize several of our officers who have served our country in uniform.

Today we’re starting with PO Zekirovski, who served four years in the United States Marine Corps as an 0311 Rifleman with 1st Battalion, 7th Marines (“Suicide Charley”). During his service, he completed two overseas deployments, including Baghdad, Iraq and Australia.

Thank you for your service and for continuing to serve the community here in Pompton Lakes. 🇺🇸

Tonight, Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the Passaic County 200 Club honored several of our own for their extraordinary bravery and professionalism.

Sergeant Detective Cottrell, Police Officer Alcantara, and SLEO II Ekkers were presented with the Valor Award for their heroic actions on November 17, 2025. Without hesitation and lacking protective firefighting equipment, they entered an actively burning residence through heavy smoke and extreme heat — under unknown structural conditions — to successfully rescue a trapped occupant.

Sergeant Bartlett and Detective Zaku received the Merit Award for their critical support and assistance during the same rescue operation, helping ensure the occupant’s safe extraction under dangerous conditions.

We’re incredibly proud of all five members for exemplifying what it means to run towards danger with disregard of their own safety in order to help someone in need.

A huge thank you to the Passaic County 200 Club for their continued support and for honoring the heroes in our department.

We also want to extend a special thank you to New Jersey State Senator Kristin M. Corrado for taking the time to attend the ceremony and show her continued support for our first responders and the Passaic County 200 Club. Your presence and advocacy mean a great deal to all of us.

Note: Sergeant Bartlett was unable to attend this evening’s ceremony, but we celebrated his well-deserved recognition and send him our congratulations!

Today, the Chief and officers from the Pompton Lakes Police Department proudly joined the Pompton Lakes Prevention Coalition, the Pompton Lakes High School Health & Wellness Coalition, and our incredible community for the Walk of Hope.
Together, we walked to shine a light on mental health awareness and help break the stigma through connection, support, and community strength. Events like this remind us that no one walks alone — and that real change happens when we show up for one another.
Thank you to everyone who participated and to our local partners for their continued dedication to the well-being of our town. đź’™
