Gourd dancing isn't a powwow style — but you'll often see it before, after, and between the intertribal dances. The Kiowa resurrected the tradition, long practiced among the Kiowa, Ponca, Comanche, and Cheyenne. Dancers move slowly around the circle shaking gourd rattles, dressed in a ribbon shirt, a fringed sash, and a red-and-blue blanket over the shoulders — and when the beat picks up, they lift their heels and shake harder. 👇

Arts programs tied to workforce development and career readiness could be eligible for funding from the NBA Foundation. Grants from the foundation help nonprofits expand their reach, deepen their impact, and create lasting opportunities for youth in NBA team markets.

Projects must be designed to equip young people ages 14-24 with the tools, training, and opportunities to help them thrive professionally.

Recent grants awarded by the NBA Foundation have benefited arts organizations and arts programming in Oklahoma. With their most recent round of funding, the foundation outlined their commitment to investing in the creative economy and preserving culture while creating careers.

Ponca Circles of Care is conducting a Post-Community Needs Assessment Survey as we come to the end of our grant year. The survey will help us better understand the experiences and needs of the Ponca community in several important areas, including culture and cultural connection, Tribal services and resources, Substance use and Mental health and wellness.
The survey is open to anyone 18 years of age or older who is part of the Ponca community.
As a thank you for your time and participation, individuals who complete the survey will receive a $20 Little Dance gift card.
Your feedback is valuable and will help inform future community efforts and services. We encourage eligible community members to take the time to share their experiences and perspectives.
Thank you, Ponca Circles of Care
