On April 15th, something special happened at 400 E Central.
Over 200 Ponca City seniors walked through the doors of City Central, and what happened over the next several hours reminded all of us why investing in our community's next generation is one of the most important things we can do.
Senior Career Day 2026 was nothing short of incredible.
Thanks to the dedication of Ponca City Public Schools and the generosity of this community, our seniors experienced a full day designed to open eyes and answer one of the biggest questions any senior faces: What am I going to do with my life?
The morning kicked off with 12 hands on tours across every career sector. From Log10 Microbiology Lab and Century Products to WT Architecture, Heather Cannon Honda, Sunny Creek Trading Post, and more. Students didn't just hear about careers, they saw them in action, in the very businesses and organizations that make Ponca City thrive.
Then came 9 breakout sessions led by some of the most passionate professionals in our region. Students learned how to manage stress, get a grip on their finances, build a standout resume, harness the power of AI, explore tribal workforce pathways, and so much more. Every single session was led by someone who lives and works right here.
After lunch, complete with table host conversations about careers, real life, and what comes next, the afternoon brought two powerful keynote speakers and mock interviews that gave students a chance to put everything they'd learned to the test.
And here's what moved us most:
By the end of the day, students had answers.
Not the same answer for everyone, and that's exactly the point. Some are heading to college. Some to CareerTech. Some into trades, into local businesses, into tribal workforce programs, into the very industries they toured that morning. The goal was never college for all - it was clarity for all. And that's what happened when this community showed up.
That kind of outcome doesn't come from a single event. It comes from employers who open their doors and invest their time. It comes from professionals who sit across from a nervous student in a mock interview and tell them they have what it takes. It comes from table hosts who share their stories over tacos and remind students that there's a future here worth building.
To every volunteer, tour host, breakout speaker, table host, and mock interviewer, a huge thank you. You didn't just fill a time slot. You helped a young person see themselves in a future they hadn't considered before. That is workforce development at its finest.
And to Ponca City Public Schools, thank you. The students who walked through those doors on August 15th were prepared, engaged, curious, and kind. That doesn't happen by accident. It is the result of educators who show up every single day, committed to the success of these kids long after they leave the building. Your hard work shines through every one of these students. They are proof of what you pour into them.
Ponca City, this is what community looks like. 💙
