Today, we had the opportunity to host Dr. Alejandra Barraza, President & CEO of HighScope International, based in Ypsilanti. HighScope is an internationally recognized early childhood education curriculum, which is used all over the world, including at PEACE Academy in the district.

Dr. Barraza met with some of the students in the Early Childhood Education program in partnership with Oakland University at Pontiac High School before dropping in on some classrooms over at PEACE Academy!

We are so thankful to Dr. Barraza and her team at HighScope for their partnership, and we look forward to continuing to build up our early childhood education programming, whether is continuing to support our “Little Phoenix”, or our next generation of early childhood teachers as part of our CTE Program!

Pontiac School District Board of Education Ratifies Tentative Agreement with Pontiac Education Association

The Pontiac School District has a new four-year contract with its teachers, approved unanimously by the Pontiac School District Board of Education on Thursday Night, May 21, 2026, in a 5-0 vote.

The agreement provides the District’s teachers with competitive pay and long-term stability, designed to attract and retain the best teaching talent in the region while keeping the District on a strong financial footing, so it can continue investing in programs, classrooms, and students.

This outcome reflects the unwavering commitment of the Board of Education, Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Leverette, and her administrative team to stay the course in the pursuit of an agreement that serves both teachers and the community.

This contract is part of the District’s broader strategic plan to build a sustainable, world-class school system that serves every student in Pontiac. It lays a foundation for the future, giving the District and its teachers a stable platform to drive real improvement in academic performance and student outcomes – and to build a school community that Pontiac families can be proud of.

On March 24, 2026, the Oakland Schools Board of Education approved a measure to allow a new ballot initiative to move forward. This proposal, an Oakland County Enhancement Millage, will appear on the August 4, 2026, ballot. The proposal calls for a 1.50 mill levy for a period of six years (2026-2031). If passed, the millage would provide an additional $781 per student to every public school district and eligible public school academy in the county. Here's an important message about this enhancement millage from Dr. Kimberly Leverette, Superintendent, Pontiac School District
