Northern Oakland County Branch (NOCB) - Naacp The founding of the NOCB-NAACP was initiated by the “Men’s Club” of Newman A.M.C. Church of Pontiac, MI. Newman’s Pastor at the time, Reverend J.A. Spears, Rev.

As a result of their hard work and efforts, a Charter was issued by the National NAACP organization on July 12, 1920. Charleston was installed as the branch’s first President. In 1986 the Northern Oakland County Branch assisted with the birth of a new chapter the Southern Oakland County Branch of the NAACP. Each year, the branch holds its annual Fight for Freedom Dinner. This is the major fundraiser of local NAACP branches through-out the country, as well as, for the national organization. The many “Dinner” sponsors and advertisers help carry out the branches work to ensure equal treatment and opportunity for all citizens.
