Did you know Oakland County has only one family shelter, with space for just 18 families?

Kids Empowered On The Move fills that gap. Each year, KEOTM supports approximately 500 homeless and struggling families throughout Oakland County, and its most critical service is emergency hotel shelter for families with nowhere else to go.

KEOTM also provides housing assistance, food, clothing, furniture, and household essentials, plus family events like the Resource Fair, Adopt a Family, and Trunk or Treat that bring dignity and joy to families in hard seasons.

On October 1, KEOTM and Community Resource Collective join forces for Safe Tonight, Home Tomorrow. Two organizations. One mission. A community coming together.

A warm bed. A hot meal. A door that locks. For most of us, these are givens. For the 156 guests who stayed with Safe Tonight Shelter last winter, they were a lifeline.

Community Resource Collective's Safe Tonight Shelter provides emergency overnight shelter to women and children experiencing homelessness in Pontiac and greater Oakland County. Operating each winter in partnership with New Birth International Church, we offer a warm bed, meals, and a connection to services for neighbors with nowhere else to turn.

Last season, 58 of our guests moved from our shelter into transitional housing. That is what "safe tonight, home tomorrow" looks like in practice.

Help us do it again this winter. Join us October 1: https://givebutter.com/safe-tonight-home-tomorrow

Mark your calendar, Pontiac. 🗓️

On Thursday, October 1, two organizations come together with one mission: making sure no family in our community goes without a safe place to sleep.

Safe Tonight, Home Tomorrow is an evening of purpose at The Crofoot featuring an immersive photography exhibit by award-winning documentary photographer Karen Lippowiths, strolling hors d'oeuvres, dinner, and a full cash bar. Every dollar raised provides emergency shelter, housing assistance, and hope for our unhoused neighbors in Oakland County.

THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT IS HERE!!!

Tonight, somewhere in Oakland County, a mother and her kids will sleep in a car. We refuse to accept that! On Thursday, October 1, you can help us change it.

Last winter, we sheltered 156 guests and helped 58 of them move into transitional housing. With you in the room on October 1, we can do far more!

Here's what we need you to do right now:

Behind the Budget: Last winter, the Board’s $200,000 FY 2026 allocation helped Safe Tonight Shelter keep unhoused women and children warm, safe, and supported when they needed it most.

Today, 50 shelter residents are transitioning into traditional subsidized housing, which is a big step toward long‑term stability.

This is what meaningful investment looks like.

Homelessness in Pontiac is becoming more visible, and advocates say the crisis is worsening. A local shelter is turning away an average of eight to 10 people per night.

This month’s meeting is one our entire community needs to attend!!!

Join us for an important collaborative conversation with Pontiac City Council President Austin as we address one of Oakland County’s most urgent challenges: homelessness.

Pontiac is currently home to Oakland County’s only two emergency shelters:
• One family shelter with only 18 spaces for families
• One adult shelter with only 60 beds
This has made Pontiac the center of many of the county’s homeless services. It is a tremendous responsibility that no single city, organization, or group of residents should be expected to carry alone.
This meeting will be led by Steve Norris, who will also provide important updates on what is happening throughout Oakland County, the challenges facing our current system, and the opportunities we have to create stronger solutions together.
We need cities, nonprofits, businesses, faith communities, service providers, people with lived experience, and concerned residents at the table. Your voice, experience, resources, and willingness to collaborate matter.
Please attend, participate, and help us move from conversation to coordinated action.
No one city can solve homelessness alone. No one nonprofit can meet every need. Together, we can build a stronger and more compassionate response for every family and individual seeking safety and support.
