“Summer Reading Program 2026- Plant A Seed-READ”- Week 1, Days 4 & 5:

For the last part of Week 1, our farming & gardening week, we tasked the summer readers with some gardening of their own! We planted chives, basil, and oregano that they can grow at home. They will need these plants in Week 4 to make herb infused oil to dip in bread they will also make for our farm-to-table themed week, so they will have to be good gardeners and keep their plants healthy with daily watering and plenty of sunlight.🪴👩‍🌾🧑‍🌾🪏☀️💦

The Literary Littles read the stories The Quiet Garden and The Imperfect Garden. The Ready Readers and Reading Adventurers continued with the Wild Robot Escapes chapter book.

We finished the week with our first “Friday Flix” movie- “The Wild Robot” and turned in our reading logs for our weekly prizes. 🎬🍿📽️

The summer readers also read an additional 98 hours that is added to our summer “Kiss A Pig Challenge” that will make Ms. Kristin kiss a pig at our finale party. 💋🐷🐽

We have lots more reading to do, though, to reach our goal, so the summer readers should spend some extra time with a favorite book this weekend before we start Week 2! 📚📖📙📘

“Summer Reading Program 2026- Plant A Seed-READ”- Week 1, Day 3:

Wednesdays at the library are made for LEGOS and puzzles. Every summer, all of the readers work together to build a big LEGO build and a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle that are raffled off as BIG prizes during our finale party. This year to celebrate Route 66 we’re building a LEGO drive-in movie theater complete with a diner, neon sign, movie screen, and cars. And guess what? It even lights up! Our jigsaw puzzle is a funny trio of chickens for our farm theme.

We of course made sure to get in some reading minutes today too. Our Literary Littles read the stories I Love Strawberries by Shannon Anderson and Jake Greenthumb by Loki. Our Ready Readers and Reading Adventurers continued with The Wild Robot Escapes.

We ended the day with our first family event and watched the Brent Allen Funny Farm Show. With his magic, jokes, and funny monkey puppet, Chuck, Brent had us laughing and smiling tonight. It was another BIG, fun day at Summer Reading!

“Summer Reading Program 2026- Plant A Seed-READ”- Week 1, Day 2:

It was another BIG and FUN day of summer reading at the library today. 📚☀️😎🎉

We continued our discussion of farm life, gardening and planting, and discussed a number of plants that we could plant both in outdoor fields and gardens as well as indoor plants. The Literary Littles read the stories Oliver’s Vegetables and The Bernstein Bears Grow-It. Then they made a root vegetable paper plate craft that had them coloring, gluing, and lacing to “plant” three root vegetables in the ground on their plate.

The Ready Readers and Reading Adventurers continued reading the summer read along chapter book The Wild Robot Escapes and then made pressed flower bookmarks to take home and use in all of the books they are reading this summer.

Many of the kids made sure to tell Ms. Kristin just how many minutes they spent reading yesterday. They are more than excited to see her kiss a pig so they are reading, reading, reading!

“Summer Reading Program 2026- Plant A Seed-READ”- Week 1, Day 1:

Summer is the best at the library! It was a BIG first day with 184 in attendance. It was so exciting to see everyone and begin our reading and daily activities together! 📚☀️😎🎉

During week one of summer reading we are discussing farm life. The Literary Littles read the stories Outdoor Farm, Indoor Farm by Lindsay H Metcalf and Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise brown. The Ready Readers and Reading Adventurers began their read along chapter book The Wild Robot Escapes. All of our groups created farm animal art canvases using dried beans instead of paint. There were all sorts of different bean sizes and colors. They had to decide which beans would be best for each of the animal features and what pattern to use to make their animals come to life. 🐷🐮🐴🐓🐈‍⬛🐔🪿🖌️🎨🫘

We also had our first day of our new summer reading lunch program. We had yummy turkey sandwiches from Edinger's Filling Station, LLC in our sack lunches today. 🥪🍎🧃

Finally, Ms. Jamie surprised us with a fun extra reading game that will make Ms. Kristin kiss a pig at the finale party! We have to read at least 4,500 hours of reading this summer, but we made sure to tell Ms. Kristin that she was definitely going to have to pucker up!💋🐷🐽
