The Pontotoc County Sheriff's Department is urging citizens to lock their vehicles and bring all valuables, fi****ms, and electronics inside. There have been multiple vehicle burglaries in the northwest region of the county and also in the City of Pontotoc. The Pontotoc County Sheriff's Department would like to remind the public that the Pontotoc County School District will be back in session starting on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Busses will be running routes and making scheduled stops. We ask that everyone traveling during bus route times be extra cautious and watch for loading and unloading zones to ensure the safety of our children and bus drivers. Law enforcement will be out helping to keep traffic flowing at our schools also. Please be patient as you are traveling through school zones, whether passing through, dropping kids off in the morning, or at pick up times. We thank each of you for your cooperation in keeping our children safe as they travel to and from school.

*PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT* The Pontotoc County Sheriff's Office has received reports of citizens receiving pop-ups on their mobile devices from various companies such as Apple, stating that their bank accounts have been hacked. These pop ups are providing the citizens actual banking information and are spoofing local banks Telephone numbers and are providing a new account number and urging individuals to transfer their funds into the provided account. If you receive any of these type messages, do not respond and if you have any questions or concerns go to your local bank in person or call and speak with a bank representative that you know personally.

Mississippi DMV Enforcement Notice

State records indicate that an outstanding traffic citation associated with your driving record has not been resolved within the required time. You are required to resolve this matter before March 15, 2026; otherwise, enforcement measures may apply beginning March 16, 2026. Under Mississippi Administrative Code §16C-16.003, failure to complete the required resolution within the prescribed period may result in administrative enforcement.

Possible enforcement measures include:

• Additional administrative fees may be assessed
• Vehicle registration may be suspended
• Driver’s license may be suspended for four business days
• Your credit standing may be adversely affected

MCCOY SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS FOR TRAFFICKING METHAMPHETAMINE

On February 19, 2026, Adrian Rashad McCoy entered a plea of guilty to Trafficking of Methamphetamine. McCoy was indicted for the charge by a Pontotoc County Grand Jury. As a result, Judge Kelly Mims sentenced McCoy to 20 years to serve in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. McCoy will not be eligible for parole or early release and will be required to serve all 20 years.

McCoy’s criminal activities were investigated by Kory Clowers and the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Department as well as the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit. Assistant District Attorneys Megan French and Sidra Winter prosecuted the case on behalf of the State of Mississippi.
