The City of Pooler has officially completed the purchase of over 28 acres of land adjacent to the entrance of Tom Triplett Park, preserving a significant greenspace barrier to the Chatham County Park in Pooler.

For months, residents have expressed a desire to see the property protected and through use of the City of Pooler Tree Fund that has been made a reality. This purchase was made utilizing $1.5 million from the Tree Fund and an additional $10.5 million charitable donation.

This acquisition also builds upon the City's recent investment in 35 acres of wetlands and woodlands off Old Pine Barren Road. Together, these efforts represent more than 60 acres of preserved land, protected under the City of Pooler Tree Fund Ordinance. Although Tom Triplett Park is a Chatham County park, by preserving the land at its gateway, the City of Pooler is helping protect the character of the area that residents have long valued.

Acknowledging the transaction included a charitable donation, federal law requires certain reporting provisions, including IRS Form 8282 . The form only applies if donated property is sold, exchanged, consumed, or otherwise disposed of within (3) three years of acquisition and serves as a reporting requirement associated with the donation.

However, because the property was acquired through the City of Pooler’s Tree Fund program, it is protected under the City’s Tree Fund ordinance and restricted to conservation purposes. Properties within the Tree Fund are preserved as part of Pooler’s long-term conservation efforts, ensuring these contributions provide lasting community benefits for generations to come.
