The 43rd Air Mobility Operations Group hosted a summer bash to build morale and continue the competition for “Best Squadron.” The best squadron is a tournament-style event where Airmen compete in various sports and trials. The squadrons faced off in kickball, volleyball and co****le. While the squadrons battled it out, burgers and other treats were served to keep participants fed, cool and hydrated.

This year the United States Air Force promoted one in five technical sergeants to the rank of master sergeant. To celebrate the selectees, hosted a release party to congratulate them. The rank of master sergeant transitions leaders from a tactical leadership style to an operational style. Airmen of this rank will advise senior leaders and guide the unit they are assigned to through mission planning and ex*****on.

Congratulations to Class 26-D. Graduates from Chief Master Sgt. Louis Williams Airman Leadership School completed a five-week course that aided in the transition from Airmen to non-commissioned officers. There are many things that make a leader in the Air Force. Airmen who are also frontline supervisors are expected to have more knowledge of military history, Air Force doctrine and management skills.

This week’s is Marvin Mack, 43rd Group Staff Agencies facility operation specialist. Mack works as the liaison between the 43rd Air Mobility Operations Groups and the Department of Public Works. He assists with tickets that squadrons place and creates requests for issues that fall outside of the squadrons’ scope. Mack served in the U.S. Navy as a catapult machinist and then transferred to the Air Force to be an Electrical Systems Specialist. He ended his Air Force career at Pope. After finishing his time in the Air Force, Mack wanted to stay at Pope and applied for the job of facility operation specialist. Mack likes to fish in his free time and spend time with his family.

Hobbies: Fishing and spending time with family

Kicking off the 43rd Air Mobility Operations Group Commander’s Call, Col. Brian Steinke, 43rd AMOG commander, introduces himself as the new commander for the group. Steinke and Chief Master Sgt. Tomio Brown, Sr., 43rd AMOG command chief, presented quarterly awards to winners. Quarterly awards recognize Airmen and civilians who have put in amazing work throughout the quarter. Other agencies spoke during the commanders call to keep 43rd AMOG members aware of different topics from summer safety to upcoming events.

The 49th Combat Training Squadron hosted its Change of Command where Lt. Col. Ryan. E. Donohoe, 49th CTS outgoing commander, relinquished command and Lt. Col. Jonathan A. Lewczyk, 49th CTS incoming commander assumed command, on Pope Army Airfield, May 29, 2026. Lewczyk will continue to lead the 49th CTS forward to new heights. The 49th CTS coordinates joint training through Battalion Mass Tactical Week to keep Airmen ready for when duty calls.

Additionally, the 49th CTS used the gathering to signify its realignment under the Expeditionary Operations School.

The 14th Air Support Operations Squadron (ASOS) honored fallen Airmen for Memorial Day by challenging themselves to run as many miles as possible in a 24-hour period, May 28, 2026. Members from across Pope Army Airfield were welcomed to join the challenge. Throughout the event, runners took turns carrying the Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) career field flag. During the run, they never let the flag stop moving.

This week’s is Staff Sgt. Kalonna Craig, 43rd Group Staff Agency commander action group (CAG) non-commissioned officer. As a part of the CAG, she coordinates senior leader engagements, meeting products and strategic initiatives for the 43rd Air Mobility Operations Group (AMOG) commander. She was the Host Aviation Resource Manger noncommissioned officer in charge before being nominated by the 43rd Operations Support Squadron (OSS) commander to join the CAG. She joined the CAG to also learn more about leadership and to further develop her career.
