On behalf of the family impacted by Tuesday's fire, the City wishes to express deep and heartfelt gratitude to all those who have offered their support. While this message may not capture the full extent of the generous donations and the countless thoughts and prayers extended to those affected by this tragic event, it represents a sincere first step in recognizing those who stepped up during this difficult time. The overwhelming kindness and compassion shown to the family truly reflect the spirit of community and the belief that β€œit takes a village.” Thank you for being there for them in their time of need.

The City Council and Mayor would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Franklin County Rural Electric Cooperative for their incredibly generous donation of a community library for the residents of Popejoy. The donation, which includes a beautifully designed library structure and a collection of various books, was presented at tonight's City Council meeting by Madison Alert and Garrett Thompson Franklin REC

This new community library will serve as a wonderful resource for our residents, encouraging reading and learning among all age groups. It's also set to complement our upcoming City Park upgrades planned for this summer, making it a perfect addition to our efforts to enhance our community amenities. We are excited about the positive impact this library will have on our town! πŸŒ³πŸ“–

🌟 This week's Ordinance Spotlight, we're looking at Ordinance #3 - MUNICIPAL INFRACTIONS & CIVIL PENALTIES

What It Covers:
This ordinance outlines how the City of Popejoy manages municipal ordinance violations through civil enforcement procedures. It defines municipal infractions, details environmental violations, explains civil penalties, and allows for the issuance of civil citations for violations of city ordinances.

Key Points:
- Municipal infractions are typically treated as civil violations rather than criminal offenses.
- Standard penalties may include:
- Up to $500 for a first offense
- Up to $750 for repeat offenses
- Each day a violation continues may be considered a separate offense.
- Certain environmental violations may carry penalties of up to $1,000 per occurrence or per day.
- Authorized city officials may issue civil citations that detail the violation, penalties, and court appearance requirements, if applicable.
- The city may also seek additional legal remedies, including court orders requiring the correction of violations.

Why It Matters To You:
This ordinance establishes a clear process for the City to address violations, encourage compliance, and protect the community. It helps ensure that local standards related to safety, property maintenance, and environmental concerns can be enforced fairly and consistently for all City residents.

Time for another Monday Matters! This week, we'll outline City of Popejoy Ordinance #26 - JUNK AND JUNK VEHICLES.

What It Covers:
This ordinance defines what constitutes "junk" and "junk vehicles" and prohibits storing them on private property within the city limits unless specific exceptions apply.

Key Points:
β€’ Junk vehicles are those that are damaged, inoperable, unsafe, or create health concerns (broken glass, missing parts, pest habitats).
β€’ It is unlawful to store or allow junk or junk vehicles to remain on private property within city limits
β€’ Junk vehicles are considered a public health and safety risk and are officially classified as a nuisance. Property owners are responsible for violations.

Why It Matters To You:
Maintaining properties free of junk and inoperable vehicles protects public health, safety, and the overall appearance of our community. It also prevents neighbors from being affected by hazards such as pests, fire risks, or unsafe conditions.

Have questions? Contact any member of the City Council, the Mayor, or the City Clerk.
