The Ripley County PHA is accepting applications for Section 8 Rental Assistance. Applications will be accepted August 3-August 7th and may be submitted online at the below link. Everyone is encouraged to complete the application electronically. Sexual violence can mean a wide variety of behaviors and types of abuse. This violence includes sexual assault (unwanted physical contact sexual in nature), sexual harassment (making sexual comments, sending unwanted intimate images, etc.), and r**e.

A common misconception is that men cannot or do not experience sexual assault and r**e. This idea is harmful to male survivors, whose experiences are often discredited based on their gender. Because this thought process is so widely shared, many men do not report or seek support regarding the abuse.

Survivors who experience sexual assault while incarcerated have the right to an advocate. MOCADSV continues to work with agencies across the state to help build connections with the prisons and correctional offices in each region. These connections help ensure that incarcerated survivors are getting the resources they need.

The rate of sexual harassment occurring online continues to grow as more technologies and online platforms are created. Harassment that occurs online is just as serious as harassment that occurs in person. Learn more about resources in your area by visiting mocadsv.org/

Domestic violence is rooted in power and control. When an abuser takes away a survivor's power for so long, the abuse and effects of the abuse seep into every aspect of the survivor's life. For example, women who experience domestic violence are more likely to also experience homelessness. Especially in cases where the abuser prevents the survivor from working, saving, or spending money, or isolates the survivor from family or friends who could potentially provide housing.

Domestic violence is also often commonly believed to be a "woman's issue," which is far from the truth. National data suggest that one in six men has experienced some form of intimate partner violence or stalking by an intimate partner. Gender identity or sexuality do not determine your ability to be sexually assaulted, physically abused, or coerced by a current or former intimate partner.

Start asking the right question: What barriers do survivors face?

Victim and survivor experiences consistently show that leaving an abusive relationship is often not a single decision, but a process that requires careful planning, resources and support.

By changing the question from "Why didn't they leave?" to "What barriers are they facing?" we can foster greater understanding and create more survivor-centered responses.

Everyone deserves safety, support, and the ability to make decisions that are right for their unique circumstances.
