Missouri Soil & Water Districts provided nearly $45 million to Missouri landowners in fiscal year 2026, saving more than 924,000 tons of soil. Butler County ranked 3rd out of all 114 counties, investing $1.27 million back into our county. We’re proud of this accomplishment and would like to thank the producers of Butler county who partner with us in preserving Missouri resources.

This work is made possible by the Missouri Parks, Soils, and Water Sales Tax. Click the link below for more information on this tax and what it provides Missourians.

This August there will be an amendment (Amendment 1) on the ballot for the renewal of the Parks, Soils, and Water Sales Tax. We would like to clear up some confusion around this tax. Amendment 1 will renew a 1/10 of 1% sales tax which is split between Missouri State Parks and Soil and Water Conservation District.

THIS TAX HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MDC. The Missouri Department of Conservation is funded by a completely separate tax and none of this money goes to them. We have no affiliation with MDC

THIS IS NOT A NEW TAX. The Parks, Soils, and Water tax has passed overwhelmingly every 10 years for decades. The tax has been in place since 1984. Here’s what it does:

Missouri State Parks:
Missouri is one of the few states that allows free entry into all of our state parks. This money allows that to continue as well as funding operations, upkeep and improvements.

Missouri Soil and Water Conservation Districts:
Missouri SWCDs cost-share with local farmers to implement practices that reduce soil erosion. These practices increase soil health, retain valuable topsoil, and protect Missouri water quality.
