On the afternoon of September 4, 2026, the City of Poquoson received a report indicating the presence of mold at Fire Station 2. As a precaution we will relocate personnel and equipment to fire Station 1 until the mold can be addressed. A professional remediation firm is scheduled to begin clean up efforts on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

A Heat Advisory has been issued for most of the area today, only excluding OBX and the MD Beaches. Heat indices near and above 105° are expected today and tomorrow. This advisory is in effect through 8 pm tonight.

Update: Work will continue in this area on Wednesday 9/2/26, as Newport News Waterworks will be onsite to repair a water line.

A utility repair has been scheduled on Wythe Creek Rd for Tuesday, 9/1/26 near the intersection of Kelsor Dr and Poquoson Ave. The contractor will begin in the center lane with cutting the pavement and prepping the site at approximately 7AM. At 9AM the west lane will close, and equipment will be moved into place to begin the repair. Please proceed with caution and obey traffic control operations, which will be alternating one lane traffic during the repair.

Milling and paving will be happening on City Hall Avenue beginning Thursday, 8/27 and is scheduled to be completed on Monday, 8/31, weather depending.
City Hall Avenue will remain accessible throughout the project.

The City of Poquoson Economic Development will host the Hampton Roads Small Business Development Center for a free small business workshop on Thursday, August 27. The workshop is open to all local entrepreneurs and small business owners and will feature basic information on how to get started using Google ads to learn how to reach more customers, generate leads and grow your business.
