On June 14th, 1777, almost a full year after America declared itself a new nation, the Congress set to select the flag. It imagined the blue of the heavens, with a star for each state, representing not just unhappy colonials making a break from the mother country, but a new constellation in the firmament of nations. Join flag historian and author Steven Hill for a rousing discussion of flags through the ages as part of our and Flag Day celebrations!

The Poquoson Lions Club will be providing free vision screenings at the library for ages 6 months to 6 years old. The screening is useful in detecting vision issues for young children so that it does not impede their early learning abilities. The screening device is able to detect risk factors for amblyopia, refractive errors (the need for corrective lenses), and unequal vision.
