The 100 mile view. LYNN HALL PA·TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2018·
We began our part in 2016 after purchasing Lynn Hall from Gary and Sue DeVore. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude for their part in saving this historic landmark –– especially for reawakening interest in this property that most gave up on long ago. We both have extensive graphics and product design backgrounds, and successfully restored

two historic homes in Fort Lauderdale. It is our lifelong appreciation for historical properties that drew us to Lynn Hall. We discovered the property in 2015 and kept coming back until we finally made an offer. Just as we did in South Florida, we are living on-site and doing the bulk of the work ourselves. The ongoing restoration has been overwhelming at times and jubilant at others –– especially when new discoveries are made. The biggest lesson learned thus far has been to “listen to Walter” when in doubt. Many times when we forced our preconceptions onto a restoration dilemma they failed, and we ended up putting things back the way Walter intended. This proved particularly true when it came to restoring the many terraced drain fields that keep water from entering the building. We intend to offer tours, on a limited basis, much as the former owners did. We also plan to connect with other Walter and Ray Hall home/building owners to collaborate on ways to develop greater awareness of this unique architecture and its significance to the region. Once we’re finished, we hope you’ll visit and let us introduce you to Lynn Hall –– a truly remarkable piece of architectural history.

This year Lynn Hall celebrates 90 years of Architectural Modernism!

Ninety years ago in 1935, Port Allegany's Walter J. Hall began the first phase of Lynn Hall, his iconic vision of a Country Inn for weary Route 6 travelers along the Seneca Highlands. Today, his vision lives on as Lynn Hall offers three unique accommodations that provide an authentically restored mid-century modern stay, each appointed with period upscale furnishings, art, and modern luxuries.
As we mark nine decades of this architectural legacy, we invite you to be part of our year-long celebration!

We are loving these saffron crocus that we added to our window box. It gives us a little fall/winter pop of color. The bees seem to enjoy it as well.🌸🐝

🏠 Winter Warmth Pioneer: The Story of Radiant Heat 🔥
Did you know? Architect Raymond Viner Hall was a true innovator in home heating. In 1939, he revolutionized American home comfort by installing 36 of the first 54 Radiant Panel Heating systems in the United States!

His expertise led him to author two groundbreaking technical manuals on Radiant Panel Heating and one on Snow Melting Systems. Bethlehem Steel even honored his work by naming their "Rayduct" product line after him. One of his notable projects was the Scott House in State College, PA, designed by R.V. Hall and built by Walter J. Hall shortly after Fallingwater.

While this innovative system proved durable, lasting 75+ years, time eventually caught up. Here at Lynn Hall, much of the original sandstone floors no longer have functioning radiant heating due to material limitations. We have preserved Hall's vision by updating the floor heating where possible and restoring the in-wall heating systems throughout the building. It's our way of preserving a modern comfort that is still popular today.

✨ Vintage meets modern in our bedroom privacy solution! 🛏️
We stumbled upon a gem from Raymond Veiner Hall portfolio. His 1950s client project sparked our imagination. We've lovingly recreated Hall's innovative curtain design, printing it on blackout fabric for our family apartment and cottage bedrooms.
Hall's vision? Curtains that double as art. Our take? Privacy with a punch of retro cool. Perfect for guests who appreciate both style and shut-eye! 😴

Finally seeing Ray Viner Hall's original vision for the Family Apartment garden window. Floor-to-ceiling glass replaces the temporary window, seamlessly connecting the new Japanese-inspired indoor garden with its outdoor counterpart. The calming water feature completes the space. Love seeing how the garden works seemly from indoor to outdoor.
