Today, Chief Mitchell and officers with the Port Allen Police Department had the opportunity to join the staff, teachers, and students at Cohn Elementary School for an exciting and fun-filled Field Day celebration.

The Port Allen Police Department always values opportunities to engage with our schools and community in a positive way. Seeing the smiles, energy, and teamwork displayed by the students made for a great day of fellowship and encouragement.

Chief Mitchell and our officers appreciate the dedication of the teachers and staff who work daily to create a positive learning environment for our youth. Events like Field Day help strengthen relationships between students, educators, and law enforcement while promoting unity, safety, and community pride.

Thank you to Cohn Elementary for allowing us to be part of such a memorable day. We look forward to continuing to support and encourage the students of our community both inside and outside the classroom.

Mothers, enjoy your day!

🚨 National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 🚨

The Port Allen Police Department would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the dedicated professionals at West Baton Rouge Parish Central 911 Communications Center.

Behind every call for service is a calm voice, a steady presence, and a critical link between the public and first responders. Our dispatchers work tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to ensure officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel have the information they need to respond quickly and safely.

Their professionalism, commitment, and ability to perform under pressure do not go unnoticed. They are truly the first first responders.

👏 Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your unwavering dedication to keeping our community safe.

We are proud to serve alongside you.

April 13, 2026

The Port Allen Police Department, along with Chief Mitchell, extends our deepest condolences on the passing of Mrs. Ray Helen Lawrence—a devoted educator, former District 1 councilwoman, and lifelong resident of our community.

Mrs. Lawrence’s life was defined by service, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the people of Port Allen. Through her years in education, she helped shape the minds and futures of countless young people. In her role as a councilwoman, she worked diligently to represent and uplift her district, leaving a lasting imprint on the city she loved.

Her legacy is one of leadership, integrity, and care for others. She will be remembered not only for her accomplishments, but for the kindness and strength she showed to everyone she encountered.

We join her family, friends, and the entire Port Allen community in mourning her loss and celebrating a life well lived. Mrs. Lawrence’s contributions will not be forgotten, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who follow.

Respectfully,
Chief Mitchell
