📢HEADS UP RESIDENTS! 📢

We have an update regarding the Court Street Sidewalk Project!

Beginning Wednesday, September 2nd, contractors will begin driving piles for the pedestrian bridge. This portion of the project is expected to take approximately five days to complete.

While work is underway, please use caution when traveling through the area, watch for construction workers and allow extra travel time. Take into consideration any increased noise levels that may occur due to the construction.

Thank you for your patience as we continue making progress on the Court Street Sidewalk Project!

FYI, West Baton Rouge Mosquito Control will be conducting parish-wide spray truck operations this week.

Good Monday morning. Last week, we submitted 26 mosquito samples to the LSU Disease Diagnostic Lab for testing; none tested positive for disease.

To combat mosquito-borne disease vectors throughout WBR Parish, we will be conducting a parish-wide spray this week. Spraying will begin tonight and will continue through Wednesday night (weather permitting).

All parish parks and recreation facilities will also be sprayed this week. Click on the map link for location details. Check back for updates, and remember to be a Skeeter Be**er!

It's that time again! This week, we're spotlighting another dedicated employee who gives their time and talent to ensuring residents of our parish have a place they are proud to call home. 💙

⭐ Next Up: Veldie Duval

Veldie, our Animal Care Administrative Specialist, has been a valued member of the West Baton Rouge Parish Government team for the past year!

In her role, Veldie helps ensure the Animal Shelter’s daily organizations stay organized while also serving as a welcoming face for visitors. She keeps daily tasks on track to fulfill the organizations mission; providing the best possible care for the animals they serve.

Veldie also has a personal connection to the shelter’s mission. She adopted her dog, Rio, after meeting him at the shelter and giving him a forever home.
Veldie says her work is fulfilling because she gets to see the positive impact the shelter makes every day. Not only did she find her own companion through the shelter, but she now gets to help other animals find loving homes by assisting with adoptions and educating the public about responsible pet care.

👏 Thank you, Veldie, for your year of dedicated service to West Baton Rouge Parish! We look forward to watching you continue to grow with us. 💙

Our team recently made a stop at the Senior Citizen Round Up, providing free blood pressure checks and other services to help keep our residents healthy and informed.

Last week was a busy one for our Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness!

OHSEP Director Deano Moran, alongside his colleagues Kacie Parault and Cody Davis, and Public Information Officer Madison Cacioppo participated in the GRT Red Stick Exercise hosted by ExxonMobil.

This multi-day exercise included emergency simulations and field exercises designed to strengthen emergency preparedness and response. Local agencies, technical experts, and experienced responders from across the company came together to train as one team, including ExxonMobil employees from across several countries.

As part of the exercise, teams worked through realistic emergency scenarios designed to test communication, coordination and response. Here in West Baton Rouge, participants responded to a simulated tank farm oil spill, providing an opportunity to practice the steps agencies would take to help protect residents and the surrounding community during a real emergency.

Exercises like these allow local and global response teams to work together before an emergency happens, strengthening the communication and coordination needed when every second counts.

Thank you to ExxonMobil for including our team in this training opportunity. This exercise reflects team work and unification across agencies and shows what can be accomplished when everyone works towards one common goal: keeping our communities safe.

⭐ Next Up: Suzanne Jerezano

Suzanne Jerezano, our Animal Shelter & Control Supervisor, has been a valued member of the West Baton Rouge Parish Government team for the past 7.5 years!

In her role, Suzanne manages the daily operations of the Animal Control facility while ensuring animals receive the proper care they need. Suzanne educates the residents of resources we have that can help promote responsible pet ownership.

Suzanne says the community continues to inspire her every day because of the close-knit small town feel that makes West Baton Rouge special. Suzanne shared, “We are not just serving the community, we’re part of it.”

Throughout her time with the parish, Suzanne says she has made so many special memories that it is difficult to choose just one. From meeting residents and taking part in animal rescues to sharing memorable experiences with her coworkers, each moment has contributed to making her time with West Baton Rouge Parish something she will always cherish.
