Our schools are organized into three levels, with five elementary schools serving students in kindergarten through grade 6, one middle school serving grades 7-8, a high school serving students in grades 9-12, and an alternative high school serving grades 9-12. General Information

In times of inclement weather that necessitate school closing or other school-related emergencies, this page will be updated in conjunction with the alerting of local media. It is the Port Angeles School District’s intent that all of its social media participants abide by the general accepted rules of network etiquette and shall not use the PASD network or PASD social media sites in such a way as to disrupt their use by other users. Please be advised the Port Angeles School District will retain records in compliance with the General Records Retention Schedule for School Districts and Educational Service Districts in Washington State. With school and bus routes starting tomorrow, we’re asking everyone in our community to help keep our students safe by remembering when to stop for a school bus.
Whether you’re driving through town, along Highway 101, or on one of our many neighborhood and county roads, please watch carefully for buses loading and unloading students.
🛑 Flashing red lights or stop arm out? STOP.
🛑 On a two-lane road, traffic in both directions must stop.
🛑 On roads with three or more marked lanes, drivers traveling in the opposite direction generally do not have to stop. Drivers traveling in the same direction as the bus always do.
As you see our yellow buses making their way around Port Angeles again, please slow down, stay alert, and give our students and bus drivers the space they need to get to and from school safely.

As we prepare to welcome students back, we want to share a simple reminder: every school day matters.
Being at school each day is about more than lessons and learning. It’s also about building relationships, connecting with teachers and classmates, establishing routines, and creating a sense of belonging.
An absence here or there may seem small, but missed days can add up. Consistent attendance helps students stay connected to their learning, their school community, and the people who are here to support them.
As we begin the 2026-2027 school year, let’s make every day count. We can’t wait to welcome ALL of our students tomorrow—and every day after that!

Building a Culture of Hope in Port Angeles Schools 🌱
What if hope isn't simply something you have - but something you can learn, strengthen, and help cultivate in others?
That's the idea behind the Science of Hope, a growing body of research showing that hope is measurable, teachable, and strongly connected to well-being and success.
Our journey with this work began at the middle school level and is now growing across Port Angeles School District. We now have 30 trained Hope Navigators who are helping us think intentionally about how we nurture hope for students throughout our schools.
Last week, our staff had the opportunity to learn directly from Dr. Chan Hellman, one of the nation's leading researchers on the Science of Hope. One question from our time together continues to resonate:
“Where, then, do we teach children to be hopeful?”
For us, the answer is increasingly: everywhere.
This isn't about adding "one more thing" to the work of our educators. It's about layering hope into the good work already happening -helping students identify meaningful goals, see pathways forward, and believe they have the ability and support to pursue them. As Dr. Hellman reminded us, hope is a skill and schools can be places where that skill is intentionally nurtured.
We're proud to be part of a growing movement here in Washington and beyond.
This work is just beginning, and we're excited to share more with our families and community about what a culture of hope can look like in Port Angeles schools. 💚

Only 2️⃣ more days until our students arrive — and the preparation doesn’t stop! Creating schools where students can learn, have fun, feel supported, and stay safe takes a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes. Across our District, staff are training, planning, preparing classrooms, reviewing safety practices, strengthening teams, and making sure we’re ready to welcome students back.

Just a glimpse of today’s preparation:
• Our Special Education teams gathered at the District Office for training and collaboration.
• Jefferson Elementary staff participated in school safety and Standard Response Protocol training.
• Dry Creek Elementary staff started their day together with a wonderful breakfast prepared by the Dry Creek Grange before continuing their back-to-school preparations.

This is just a snapshot. Across every school and department, countless details are coming together to create the safe, welcoming, fun, and engaging learning environments our students deserve.

🎒 A big thank you to Vanir for stepping up for our students!
As we prepared for our Back-to-School Fair, we found ourselves facing a challenge: we needed more backpacks with the styles, sizes, and fits that would work well for our older students.
When the local Vanir team heard about the need, they immediately stepped up, providing a generous grant that helped us make sure ALL students had access to a backpack that worked for them.
Vanir supports construction and project management for capital projects in communities across the country, and we’re especially grateful to see their local team investing right here in Port Angeles.
We love seeing what happens when local businesses and industry listen, respond, and rally around the needs of our students. 💚 Thank you, Vanir, for helping our students start the school year feeling prepared and supported!

Last week at our all-staff kick off event, Superintendent Michelle Olsen shared that this year, we'll be recognizing staff members each month with a Lighthouse Award. Why a Lighthouse? Because it is an intentional symbol of the work we do every day. A lighthouse does not determine someone’s destination or navigate the journey for them - it stands steady, provides light, and helps illuminate a path forward. Inspired in part by Steve Pemberton’s The Lighthouse Effect and the idea that each of us can be a “human lighthouse” for others, it represents the guidance, encouragement, relationships, and hope we provide to our students, families, colleagues, and community as we Light the Way to Learn, Grow, and Thrive.
Our August recipient was awarded posthumously to Leann McComb, who passed in July and had worked in Port Angeles School District for 47 years. She lit the way for hundreds of staff, students, families, and more in the greater Port Angeles Community. Superintendent Olsen knew it was even more fitting when at her service weeks prior, she learned her favorite song was "This Little Light of Mine." Pictured below is Leann's brother, Pat, receiving the award on her behalf.
