When I was very small, one of my first yearnings was for family all around. A big one. I must have been five. I remember riding my bike and watching neighbors as their family came over to visit across the street. I would hear them in the house and in the backyard talking and laughing loudly. Glasses clinking and kitchen noises wafted from the windows facing the front of the house. (Yes, I was a bit nosy, but mostly lonely for a big affectionate family.) When it was time to go home, they would hang out in the front yard talking, hugging and laughing. That is the dream. I guess sometimes you never grown up.
