I published a new recap of the June 23 joint meeting between the Port Angeles City Council and the Clallam County Board of Commissioners:
Keeping Essential Services Moving
A recap of the June 23 joint City Council and Clallam County Board of Commissioners meeting
This was a short meeting, but it was an important one.
The City and County met to discuss criminal justice services, including prosecution, public defense, court services, jail services, and the agreements that keep those services operating.
The main takeaway is simple: services continue, and the City and County are still working toward updated agreements.
Council tabled the prosecution and public defense agreements to a future meeting because additional review was still needed. Council also approved an extension framework to preserve continuity before the June 30 deadline, with a target date of September 30 for completing the broader criminal justice service contracts.
As a parent, teacher, community member, and councilmember, I want essential services to keep functioning while local governments work through difficult details carefully and publicly.
