Port Arthur, Let’s Keep Moving Forward
Port Arthur, we’ve got good news on the horizon. This Saturday, August 29, Frenchy’s Fried Chicken is opening its doors — bringing new energy, new jobs, and another sign that our city is growing.

🚧 To keep folks safe during the celebration, Gulfway Drive (SH‑87) will be closed between Orange Ave and Bluebonnet Ave from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
🚗 Residents please plan ahead and take an alternate route to avoid delays.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Frenchy’s Chicken Grand Opening

Port Arthur, get ready to welcome Frenchy’s Chicken! The grand opening celebration is happening this Saturday, August 29, and motorists should be aware of a temporary road closure in the area.

🚧 Gulfway Drive (State Highway 87) will be closed between Orange Avenue and Bluebonnet Avenue to accommodate the grand opening event. The roadway closure and traffic-control operations are expected to begin at approximately 11 a.m., with the roadway anticipated to reopen around 11 p.m., once the event has concluded, the area has been cleared and it’s safe to restore normal traffic.

🚗 Motorists should expect traffic delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes and avoid the affected portion of Gulfway Drive during the closure.

We’re excited to welcome Frenchy’s Chicken to Port Arthur and celebrate this new addition to our community! Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to keep everyone safe.

Deadline approaching | Friday, August 28, 2026, is the last day to turn in the Port Arthur Firefighter examination application.

The application, which includes the examinee tie-breaker questionnaire, must be returned to the Human Resources office no later than 5 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2026. The Human Resources office is located on the first floor of City Hall (444 4th Street).

The City of Port Arthur will administer an entry-level Civil Service examination for the position of Firefighter on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 9 a.m. It is the written examination only and will take place at:

On Thursday, August 20, H-E-B and Keep Texas Beautiful will celebrate the grand opening of a NEW Community Recycling Center in Port Arthur! ⁠

This new facility will give residents and businesses a dedicated place to recycle corrugated cardboard—making local recycling more convenient while helping reduce landfill waste and strengthen recycling infrastructure in the region.⁠

The City of Port Arthur Water Utilities Department is conducting repairs to a water main at 548 15th Street.

Residents and businesses in the area from 13th Street to 18th Street between, Houston Avenue and Waco Avenue, may experience service interruptions for approximately 4 to 6 hours while repairs are completed.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as our crews work to restore service as quickly as possible.
