Tip "O" Thumb Haven Subdivision

One of our neighbors finally got a response from the Township regarding our trash pickup.

To all the residents of Tip O Thumb:
When the Township entered into a contract for township-wide garbage pickup, everyone was charged the same rate. After the first year, Emterra came to the Township and said their trucks could not go into some areas. With this information, the Township worked with our assessor and provided Emterra a list of addresses that would receive a "discounted" rate to take their garbage to a central location. Tip O Thumb was one of these areas. Unknown to the Township, Emterra has been picking up at the curb without being compensated for that curbside service. Emterra does not know how/why that changed. Now, we go back a few weeks, someone in a different area of the Township complained to Emterra about the trucks going down a private road.
NO ONE IN TIP O THUMB complained, but while having the discussion about the private road, Emterra asked about the other areas that get a discounted rate, Tip O Thumb was one, as well as other private associations. These rates are in our contract with Emterra. Everyone has received their bill for 2026, as it was on your tax bill in December. This was for the discounted rate. The Township will adjust the tax bill in December for 2027 to the "regular" rate, but we are still waiting to hear what will take place for the rest of 2026. I have had several conversations with Dan at Emterra on how to continue the curbside service in 2026, but at this moment, I am still waiting for a return call. It is my understanding that they will continue as long as they are compensated I have not heard how you will be charged the difference between the discounted rate to the regular rate. The winter months will still be at a central location. Please note that the Township meeting will be the third Tuesday of the month at 5:00 if anyone has questions that haven't been addressed already. The Township is working for you to get a solution.

Well, as you probably noticed, they did not come in the sub to pick up trash. Someone messaged me to say that as of now, they will not be coming in to pick up the trash and recycling EVER! I did not speak to Emtera as of yet, so I know zero details as to why. This will add some issues that need to be addressed, such as DO NOT put trash up at M-25 before Sunday. If you put it there before its time, the critters will get into it, and someone will have to constantly be picking it up. The same goes for recycling. If it's windy, all the recycling ends up everywhere but in the containers. PLEASE be considerate of others and follow the directions.

Big doin's in the Tip O Thumb. last night shortly before 11pm we heard a BIG BOOM 💥 and then a few smaller ones then every Fire Engine in the surrounding area were here. We couldn't tell exactly which house it was as we couldn't get close enough but this morning I took these 😭 Very sad

Well, as we sadly found out Monday, Emterra will not be picking up the trash curbside now. Trash will have to be placed up front for the duration of winter

If you drive a blue Subaru, and you were pulling onto the paved road yesterday morning around 11:15 a.m., I have your sunglasses. I was right behind you, and saw something fall off your car, so I stopped and picked up the glasses and case off the road before they got run over. had to call and tattle on the Emtera guys for not picking up the trash curbside, second week in a row. Recycling is coming in, but not trash. They will be sending him back today to pick up :)
