Neil Armstrong Elementary School

Neil Armstrong Elementary School https://edudata.fldoe.org/ReportCards/Schools.html?school=0111&district=08 Neil Armstrong Elementary School was destroyed August 13, 2004, by Hurricane Charley.

Neil Armstrong Elementary School originally opened its doors to the Port Charlotte community in 1971. At the time, it consisted of approximately 80,000 sq. ft. of facility space including many portables that served as classrooms. After the hurricane, Neil Armstrong Elementary School students attended classes in a split shift arrangement on the campus of Liberty Elementary School from August 30, 20

04 until April 18, 2005, when Neil Armstrong students moved into a temporary modular school on the grounds of Port Charlotte Middle School. October 10, 2007, marked the opening of the newly completed Neil Armstrong Elementary School at 22100 Breezeswept Avenue, Port Charlotte, Florida. The eleven acre site now houses a new two story 112,000 square foot replacement school designed by Reynolds, Smith and Hills, Inc. Architects and constructed by Owen Ames Kimball Construction. School District, insurance and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds paid for the $22,838,758 newly constructed school. Students began classes in the new school on October 24, 2007. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. Neil Armstrong Elementary School was the first Charlotte County school to be LEED certified. Other features of Neil Armstrong Elementary School not related to LEED, include interactive teaching boards, digital cameras, audio enhanced sound system, height adjustable writing boards, security camera system and hurricane resistant glass windows. Neil Armstrong Elementary School emphasizes 21st Century learning, leadership development, and character development, based on the foundation and principles of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Neil Armstrong Elementary School is proud to have strong relationships with community business partners, who often take an interest in our school curriculum and activities, while in turn offering our students unique learning opportunities. We frequently have special guest speakers in our school and are able to offer exceptional programs due to the generous funding of our partners. We also encourage our students to give back to their community by participating in various clubs, organizations, and activities. Our Kiwanis K-kids Club organizes community outreach programs such as Shoe Boxes for Soldiers and Campus Clean-up Days, while our Green Team works all year long to keep our campus beautiful and environmentally friendly. Neil Armstrong Positive ASTRO students take responsibility for their learning and are empowered to discover and develop their individual strengths so that they can influence others. By unleashing their potential, our students become leaders in many areas. Our students track their own assessment data to better understand their personal strengths and weaknesses. They then work with teachers to set academic goals. Students and teachers proudly display their student data throughout our school in many innovative ways. NAES also empowers families to become involved in their children’s education!. We provide many opportunities for parental involvement, including our PTO and SAC Committees. We keep our families involved and a part of our school family by organizing special events that include but are not limited to:

Pizza with Santa
Astro Fair
AR Book Bash
Neil’s Nuggets of Knowledge
Dr. Seuss Night
FCAT Parent Nights
Family Math Night
Family Science Night
Science Fair
Book Fairs

What an absolutely EPIC school year! We had one final PBIS event in the books this week! We celebrated students for being referral-free all of semester 2 with an AmaZiNg “Minute to Win it”Event! All students who were referral-free got a chance to participate in the games and win prizes! A BIG “Thank You” to Mrs. Lisson for organizing and hosting the event. Thank you to PTO, Mrs. Morazes and Kona Ice for all the prizes! This event wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Mrs. Finch, Mr. Mackie, and Mrs. Sterbutzel as fantastic co-hosts and tech geniuses! 🚀
