This evening around 5:30 PM, the Port Chester Fire Department was dispatched by 60 Control to 23 Austin Place for a reported inside odor of gas.

As crews entered the basement of the structure, they were met with a heavy smoke condition. After an aggressive search, firefighters located a fire within the walls between the basement and first floor of the residence. A handline was quickly stretched and the fire was rapidly knocked down. Crews then opened up surrounding areas to check for any extension throughout the home.

Following the fire, one member operating on scene suffered a medical emergency. He was immediately assisted by fellow firefighters, Port Chester Police Department, and Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS personnel before being transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. Thankfully, he is doing well.

The fire was determined to be accidental in nature.

πŸš¨β„οΈ FINAL STORM UPDATE – TRAVEL BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT β„οΈπŸš¨

Snowfall has largely moved out of the area, and conditions are gradually improving. We received approximately 16 inches of snow during this storm. While snowfall is nearly complete, sustained winds continue to create blowing and drifting snow, which may still affect visibility and road conditions in some areas.

🚫 The travel ban remains in effect until 6:00 PM
Please stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary so highway crews and emergency responders can safely complete plowing and cleanup operations.

Roadways may remain slick, and drifting snow may continue to impact certain areas. Give crews the space they need to finish the job.

🧯 PLEASE CLEAR FIRE HYDRANTS
If there is a hydrant near your home or business, take a few minutes to shovel at least a 3-foot clearance around it. Every second counts in an emergency. Clearing hydrants helps firefighters respond faster and can save lives.

πŸ“ž Remember, in the event of an emergency, dial 911 or (914) 939-0700. For non-emergency calls, please dial (914) 939-1661.

Thank you for your cooperation. Stay safe, and stay warm.
