**Birthday Shout Out**

Today, Fire Patrol and Rescue Company would like to wish our Head Driver, FF Julian Silva, a very happy 21st birthday!

This milestone not only marks a big day for Julian, but also means he is now able to operate and drive both Rescue 40 and Rescue 41 without requiring a driver over 21, in accordance with Village regulations.

Congratulations, Julian—enjoy your special day and stay safe!

This week is National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. The Rescue Company sends a shout out to the Men and Women who dispatch us out on runs; the Westchester County Department of Emergency services Communications Division, otherwise known as 60 Control.

The work these men and women do every day being Westchesters true *first* responders is never fully recognized. At Rescue Company 40, we continue to maintain a strong relationship with these amazing individuals and look forward to continuing this great partnership in the future.

We would be remised if we did not shout out four of our own, who work in this field. FDNY Fire Alarm Dispatcher Matthew Ganz, of the Bureau of Communications Fire Dispatch Training Unit, FDNY Fire Alarm Dispatcher Steve Keck, of the Joint Operations Center, Emergency Communication Specialist Nicholas Melillo, Julian Silva, and Ryan Morgan, all of Westchester County Department of Emergency Services, and 60 Control.

From Westchester's Busiest Volunteer Rescue Company, enjoy all the praise you receive this week. It is very much deserved.

*Advanced Vehicle Extrication Training & Tractor Trailer Rescue*

This past weekend, members of Rescue Company 40 participated in an Advanced Vehicle Extrication Training Course hosted by Bedford Hills Fire Department and instructed by Signal 73 Fire Training.

Over two full days of hands-on training, our members worked alongside numerous departments from across Westchester County, as well as Greenwich & Bridgeport Fire Departments in CT. Crews spent over eight hours each day training on advanced extrication techniques including tunneling, tenting, dash rolls, door and roof removals, vehicle stabilization, and victim disentanglement, before applying those skills to complex, realistic scenarios.

Members were challenged with a variety of demanding situations, including a pickup truck stacked on top of another vehicle with an ejected patient trapped in between, a car into a bus with a patient trapped, and confined-space extrications where access to the patient was limited to the rear only. Additional scenarios included vehicles positioned on top of buses, and vehicles down an embankment requiring stabilization, extrication, and low angle rope rescue skills, which required crews to adapt, communicate, and execute under pressure.

As a company that regularly operates on major roadways including Interstate 95, Interstate 287, the Hutchinson River Parkway, and provides mutual aid responses to Interstate 684, as well as those same roadways in surrounding districts, this level of training is critical to ensuring our members are prepared to handle the most complex and demanding rescue situations.

Training from this past weekend was quickly put to use. On Wednesday morning, Rescue 40 was dispatched to Willett Avenue and Rectory Street for a male trapped beneath a tractor trailer. Upon arrival, members found a victim pinned under a lowboy trailer. Utilizing skills reinforced during the weekend’s training, members stabilized the trailer, captured the suspension, and lifted the vehicle using airbags and bottle jacks to successfully extricate the patient.

We would like to thank Signal 73 Fire Training and the Bedford Hills Fire Department for providing a valuable and well-executed training. Training alongside departments we don’t regularly operate with strengthens coordination and prepares us for mutual aid responses on complex incidents. Thank you to members from Purchase Fire for assisting us in the stabilization, lifting, and extrication of the party trapped on Wednesday, as well as the Port Chester Police, and EMS.

*Busy Night for the Rescue Company on I-287*

This past Friday night into early Saturday morning, the Rescue Company handled three back-to-back motor vehicle accidents on Interstate 287.

Just after 11:00 PM Friday night, we were dispatched to I-287 EB at Mile marker 9.6 for a serious MVA with reports of occupants trapped. Upon arrival, Rescue 40 and Rescue 30 (Purchase Rescue) quickly put tools to work, performing simultaneous extrications and safely removing patients from both vehicles. All patients were turned over to EMS and NYSP for evaluation and transport.

Shortly after 12:15 AM Saturday morning, crews were dispatched back to I-287 EV at Mile marker 9.2 for a five-vehicle accident with several injuries. Members secured all involved vehicles, mitigated hazards, and assisted EMS personnel on scene. Crews operated for approximately one hour before returning to quarters.

Just after 1:30 AM, Rescue 40 was dispatched once again to I-287 EB at mile marker 8.6 on a dual response with Purchase for a two-vehicle accident. Crews provided traffic blocking and scene protection while emergency personnel operated. Units were released just before 2:00 AM.

Three incidents in just a few hours is a reminder of how active the highway can be during overnight hours. Please slow down, stay alert, and move over for emergency vehicles.
