Tea, tradition and community!

Join the Bethesda Baptist Church Family this Saturday for their Annual Rainbow Tea, featuring guest speaker Rev. Dr. Frozine Reece Smith of @ Bethel Baptist Church White Plains.

Bethesda and the Port Chester-Rye Branch share deep roots, as our local Black churches helped lay the foundation for our Branch 85 years ago, and we are always proud to show up for the institutions that have long shown up for our community.

When we bring the Branch together in person it’s special…especially when we are gathering in the home of a longtime community partner. πŸ’™βœŠπŸΎπŸ’›

Our May general membership meeting was held in-person at HDSW Hope House in Port Chester. We enjoyed fellowship, good food and community business, with Congressman George Latimer joining us to share updates from Washington and Port Chester Mayor Luis Marino stopping by to congratulate the Branch on 85 years of service. We were also treated to a wonderful meal prepared by the talented culinary students from the Carver Center. πŸ˜‹πŸ½οΈπŸ‘πŸΎ

Our relationship with HDSW spans generations, and we are grateful to CEO Kathy Pandekakes, Brenda, James and the entire team for always making us feel right at home. When community organizations work together with shared purpose, everybody benefits.

Stay tuned for details on our September General Membership Meeting, because there is plenty more work ahead and we want you at the table. πŸ’ͺπŸΎπŸ—³οΈβœ¨

It’s special to see our stories passed from one generation to the next. πŸ“šπŸŒπŸ“š

Our own Lisa Rambaran represented the Port Chester Rye Branch at the Port Chester Rye Brook Public Library as acclaimed African storyteller Subomi Macaulay brought culture, imagination and tradition to life through the timeless power of storytelling.

President James Henderson III later caught up with Ms. Macaulay at the African American Heritage Festival at Kensico Dam last June to pick up a signed copy of her children’s book, The Lion Who Forgot to Roar, a beautiful story about courage, confidence and finding your voice. πŸ¦πŸ—£οΈ

Support our local authors, share our stories and keep building those home libraries. βœŠπŸΎπŸ“–πŸ’ͺ🏾
