From homicide investigations to missing children, K-9 teams are often called when every second matters.

Between August 2025 and May 2026, Matt Petrof and K-9 Rip assisted Pennsylvania State Police troops and local agencies on a wide range of critical incidents, including burglaries, bank robberies, homicides, missing persons, and runaway juveniles.

Together, they tracked across mountains, dense woods, rivers, and city streets to locate suspects, recover key evidence, and find vulnerable individuals in need of help. In several major investigations, including homicide cases, K-9 Rip played a pivotal role in locating both suspects and victims.

This is the power of a highly trained K-9 team: relentless determination, extraordinary skill, and the ability to make the difference when lives are on the line.

She may be small, but her nose is doing some very big work.

During a single shift at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, Merla, a member of the United States Department of Agriculture Beagle Brigade, detected 100 prohibited sandwiches hidden in travelers’ luggage.

Since 1984, the USDA’s Beagle Brigade has helped protect America’s agriculture and public health systems by detecting fruits, meats, plants, and other items that could carry dangerous pests or diseases.

With roughly 220 million scent receptors, beagles are uniquely suited for the job and their friendly demeanor makes them ideal ambassadors with the traveling public.

Cute? Absolutely.

Effective? Even more so.
