🔥🚒 🧯We were honored to be invited by the Carroll Township EMS & Fire Department Association to participate in their Safety Day last week!

Students had the opportunity to learn about fire safety, escape plans, and using fire extinguishers, and general emergency preparedness. They also got an up-close look at firefighters in action. They even had a chance to explore the Safe Kids Greater Toledo fire safety trailer. Events like these are a great way for students to learn important safety skills and get to know the local first responders who are there to help protect their community.

We appreciate the Carroll Township EMS & Fire Department for continuing this great community tradition and giving us the opportunity to be part of an event that helps educate and prepare our local youth. Thank you for the invitation! 🔥🚒🧯

We were recently invited by the Ottawa County Regional Water to participate in their annual Emergency Response Coordination Program meeting. This was a great opportunity for local first responders and emergency response partners to learn more about the hazards and safety measures associated with their operations.

During the meeting, we received an overview of chlorine gas and the safety considerations associated with its use, as well as reviewed their Emergency Action Plan and response procedures. We also had the opportunity to take a quick tour of the chlorine gas feed room.

We also received a demonstration and review of their RKI Instruments single-gas monitors, which help provide responders with important information when working in and around the facility.

Thank you to Ottawa County Regional Water for inviting us and continuing to work with our emergency response partners to improve preparedness, coordination, and responder safety! 🤝🚒🛟

OTTAWA CO./Danbury Twp./Catawba/Port Clinton: Westbound State Route 2 at the SR 269 exit will be closed tomorrow, October 5 at 7pm, and remain closed through Friday morning, October 9.

During this time, the eastbound SR 2 exit to SR 269 will also be closed. The work is to repair damage from an oversized load bridge strike earlier this year.

Westbound SR 2 traffic will be detoured using the SR 269 exit ramp, to the new roundabout, back to westbound SR 2.

Eastbound traffic wishing to use 269 must exit ~one mile sooner at SR 53, and take SR 163 to reach SR 269.

You may notice the presence of several fire trucks at the Ottawa County Regional Water Treatment Plant this evening. There’s no cause for concern — local fire departments are simply attending a scheduled meeting on-site.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make our recent TC Energy Emergency Response Exercise a success!

We want to extend a special thank you to TC Energy for coming out and spending the day with us, as well as to those who traveled and flew in to participate. We truly appreciate the time, knowledge, and effort you put into strengthening relationships and emergency preparedness within our community.

Thank you to all of the local firefighters, police departments, and emergency management agencies who participated and shared their expertise. Your involvement is invaluable in helping us build stronger coordination and preparedness for when it matters most.

And a special thank you to Portage Fire for allowing us to use their facility and helping make this event possible.

We appreciate everyone who came together to learn, collaborate, and prepare for the safety of our communities. Thank you for making this a great event!

**Update** Water pressure should be returning back to normal. There is no boil advisory at this time.

We are currently aware of a water main break affecting the village. Residents on the north side of town may be without water.

Our village crew is enroute to address the issue. We currently do not have an ETA for repairs.

Potentially severe weather is forecasted for the Ottawa County area throughout the day on Friday, September 4, including around the noon outdoor warning siren testing time. As a result, today’s regularly scheduled monthly outdoor warning siren test and Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) test have been CANCELED.

Canceling these test alerts helps avoid confusion between a routine test and an actual severe weather warning should conditions deteriorate as forecast.

Ottawa County EMA urges residents to remain weather-aware throughout the day and to monitor local forecasts and official alerts for updates.
