Town of Port Deposit
MD 222 (North Main Street) Resurfacing Project

Project will begin the week of November 7, 2022. We anticipate the work will start at Center Street.

SHA will resurface MD 222 (North Main Street) from MD 276 (Center Street) to Granite Ave. Work will be performed weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include milling, paving and striping. One lane will be open and expect delays.

Residents who utilize on-street parking are urged to move their vehicles to one of the Town lots during work hours. Roadway milling may generate some dust - consider closing home and car windows during these operations. With good weather, all work should be completed in about two weeks.

If you have any questions, please call Town Hall at 410-378-2121.

Port Deposit Town Hall is looking to level the sidewalks in areas that have been been affected by tree roots elevating concrete and granite slabs. We are looking for a company that can carefully lift the slabs out of the pathway then stump grind the roots down just far enough to level the sidewalk and not hurt the tree. If repairs to Granite or concrete are required that would be a plus for the same company to be able to accommodate those needs. Responses to this inquiry should be directed to [email protected].

Port Deposit Heritage Museum - Paw-Paw Building schedules Candlelight Tour.

The Port Deposit Heritage Corporation, founded in 1975, has scheduled its bi-annual Christmas Candlelight Tour for Saturday, December 3, 2022 throughout Port Deposit and atop the bluff, overlooking the river.

The tour is always held on the first Saturday in December and this year’s event will be held from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. There are 15 stops on the tour beginning with the Heritage Museum in the Paw Paw Building, located at 98 N. Main Street where tour tickets can be purchased for $25 per adult, $10 per child aged 3-17 years. Tour tickets are also being sold online (in advance) at Eventbrite. Members will get a $5 cash rebate. Items in our online auction will also be available for viewing inside the Paw Paw Building.

Santa plans to be in town from 2p.m. to 5p.m.

Buildings open for the tour include The Donaldson Brown Conference Center above town, and 14 other historic stops all along Main Street in town. Come see our well-preserved mid-19th century river town on the National Register of Historic Places, on the first Saturday in December. Tour participants can also enjoy specials at DeLorenzo’s, Granite Run Taproom, Lee’s Landing and Backfin Blues.

The Selective Service System (SSS) for the State of Maryland currently has several openings for local draft boards across the state. While there currently is no draft in effect, the federal government requires that a functional system be in place for readiness purposes. To meet that goal, we recruit and train civic-minded individuals from around the State to serve as draft board members.

Serving on a Presidentially-appointed Local Board is an honor and a privilege. Board Members are citizen volunteers and serve their local community by protecting the rights of those individuals who are drafted. They ensure that young men who are drafted are able to serve their country, and those with lawful and legitimate reasons for not being drafted are not inducted into the U.S. military. The SSS is seeking volunteers who are interested in this important civic duty. While these positions are indeed prestigious and important, the commitment is quite minimal. Once appointed, Board Members complete initial training online, and then complete a short yearly refreshers in the same manner.

Thank you for your time and for considering this important service to your country.

Board Member Requirements:
-Must be 18 years old or older
-Must be a citizen of the United States
-Men must have registered with Selective Service, except those born from March 29, 1957 through December 31, 1959
-Must not be a member of law enforcement occupation as defined by Selective Service policy (example: police officer or judge)
-Must not be an "active or retired" career member of the Armed Forces or Reserves or National Guard (seperated OK)
-Must not have been convicted of any criminal offense

The ability to sign-up/additional information can be found on the SSS website:
Almost at 1100 signatures - please sign/share - The citizens of Port Deposit are overwhelmingly opposed to this current proposal, as shown! Sign and Share!
Hello All - As you may know, the scheduled date for formal proposal of the Granite Cliffs Subdivision of 535 houses above Port Deposit is on the agenda for the June 15 meeting. Below is a link to the information you will need to join the meeting via phone/computer. I am currently writing to ask the planning commission that this agenda item or meeting be postponed until such a time that it can be an in person meeting. I feel that due to socioeconomic status, and poor cell reception in the area, the civil liberties of some of our citizens to be represented is being suppressed by holding this virtually. I have spoken with an attorney and will inform if we make any progress in this regard. Nonetheless, the following is the information needed as currently planned. Thanks, keep talking, share the petition, write the planning commission, and ATTEND THE MEETING!! THANK YOU!!! The citizens of the town need to officially know about the proposed development Granite Cliffs, less than 1/4 mile from Main St. Within 24 hrs, a petition against this development already has over 400 signatures. We need Port Deposit as a Town Government to resist this particular development as well. The letter at the TAC meeting from the town was a good first step, and we thank you.
Will recycling be picked up this week? No one came last Monday, did the day change or is it not every Monday anymore?
What’s going on in town that they have the road closed?
I'm Looking For My Cousins,Kimberly,Jonathan,Tommy Richmond,Their Parents Are Robert And Heather Richmond
Does anyone know why the recycling in town isn't being picked up?
From the Cecil County Health Dept:

We want to hear from you!

Please take some time to complete our survey on health and quality of life in Cecil County. This survey is for Cecil County residents ages 18 and older. Results of the survey will inform the selection of health priorities for Cecil County and the development of a plan to address them.

The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and results are anonymous. The survey will be available from July through September 2018.

The Cecil County Community Health Survey was developed by Cecil County Health Department and Union Hospital of Cecil County, in partnership with Cecil County’s Community Health Advisory Committee.

Thank you for your valuable feedback!

I enjoyed eating at a restaurant in Port Deposit, MD April 20, 2018. I wish historical places were open more hours. The BRITISH did not capture the town in the 1800s, one marker said. Robert Durham, Philadelphia
