Claiborne County Emergency Management Mourns the Loss of Mr. Frank Davis

The Claiborne County Emergency Management Agency extends our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and the entire Claiborne County community on the passing of Mr. Frank Davis.

Mr. Davis dedicated many years of his life to public service in Claiborne County, including serving as Claiborne County Emergency Management Director and Sheriff of Claiborne County. His commitment to public safety and his dedication to serving the citizens of our county are a part of the lasting legacy he leaves behind.

As the current Director of Claiborne County Emergency Management, I believe it is important that we recognize and honor those who served before us and helped lay the foundation for the work we continue today. We are grateful for Mr. Davis’s years of service, leadership, and contributions to Claiborne County.

⚠️ SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR CLAIBORNE COUNTY ⚠️

The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Claiborne County until 7:30 PM.

Storm Hazards:
🌬️ Wind gusts up to 60 mph
🧊 Quarter-size hail
🌳 Potential damage to trees, roofs, siding, and vehicles

Communities that may be impacted include:
• Port Gibson
• Hermanville
• Pattison
• Peyton

Safety Tips:

* Move indoors immediately if you are outside.
* Stay away from windows.
* Park vehicles under cover if possible.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Continue to monitor weather updates and be prepared to take action if conditions worsen.

Claiborne County Emergency Management Secures $500,000 Investment to Strengthen Public Safety

PORT GIBSON, Miss. — The Claiborne County Emergency Management Agency is proud to announce that $500,000 has been secured to strengthen emergency preparedness and response capabilities throughout Claiborne County.

This investment represents another step forward in ensuring that the county is better equipped to protect its citizens before, during, and after emergencies and disasters.

Emergency Management Director Marvin Ratliff, Sr. said the funding reflects his continued commitment to bringing additional resources to Claiborne County.

“Since becoming Emergency Management Director, I have made it a priority to seek every opportunity available to improve our county’s emergency preparedness. My responsibility is to ensure that Claiborne County is as prepared as possible to protect our citizens and support our first responders when disaster strikes.”

The funding will be used to enhance emergency management operations by improving technology, communications, equipment, training, and other emergency response capabilities that will benefit the citizens of Claiborne County for years to come.

“We do not take this investment lightly,” Ratliff said. “Every dollar entrusted to our agency will be managed responsibly and used to strengthen our ability to serve the people of Claiborne County. Public safety is not something we wait to address after a disaster—it requires planning, preparation, and investment before an emergency ever occurs.”

Ratliff also expressed appreciation to the Claiborne County Board of Supervisors, county officials, county employees, and emergency management partners who have supported the agency’s efforts to improve emergency preparedness throughout the county.

“Emergency management is a team effort. While I am grateful for this accomplishment, our work is far from finished. I will continue pursuing opportunities that improve our county’s readiness, strengthen our response capabilities, and make Claiborne County a safer place to live.”

Emergency Management: More Than a Desk Job

Many people think Emergency Management is simply sitting behind a desk, but the work often takes us into the field. Today, we’re maintaining Claiborne County’s designated evacuation routes by clearing vegetation around evacuation route signs to ensure they remain visible and easily identifiable. These signs are not just markers along the roadway. They are a critical part of the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Emergency Preparedness Program. Should an emergency ever require a protective action or evacuation, these routes help guide residents and visitors safely and efficiently out of the affected area. Emergency preparedness doesn’t begin when an incident occurs it begins long before, through planning, training, exercising, and maintaining the systems that protect our communities. Keeping evacuation route signs clear and visible is one of those important responsibilities that helps ensure Claiborne County is always prepared.
