Tonight, neighborhoods across Port Huron will come together to celebrate National Night Out—an evening dedicated to building stronger neighborhoods, connecting with your neighbors, and strengthening partnerships between our community and local first responders.

Whether you're stopping by for a few minutes or spending the evening with family and friends, we encourage everyone to come out, meet your neighbors, and enjoy the fun!

National Night Out is right around the corner, and we're looking forward to another great evening of neighbors connecting with neighbors while building stronger partnerships with the PHPD and other first responders.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie, and safer communities. It's an opportunity to get outside, meet the people who live around you, strengthen neighborhood connections, and spend time with the officers and first responders who serve our community.

If you've been thinking about hosting a block party or neighborhood gathering, there's still time! Please refer to our previous National Night Out post for information on how to host an event and submit your Special Events Permit application. We'd love to see even more neighborhoods join in the fun.

If you're not planning to host an event, we encourage you to attend one near you! Here are the events currently registered across the City:

Join Officer Sam Baker and Lt. Pat Eash as they sit down to talk about what's happening around PHPD on the newest episode of "The Lead With PHPD".

This episode includes:

• Introducing our newest Officer after being officially sworn in.
• An update on our PHPD recruits currently training at the Oakland Police Academy.
• What to expect during the Downtown Port Huron Boat Week and some reminders to help everyone enjoy a safe celebration.
• National Night Out and how you can host a neighborhood block party and meet local first responders.
• A department highlight featuring Platoon 3's outstanding work in quickly locating and apprehending a suspect involved in a felonious assault.

🚨 ATTENTION, PORT HURON NEIGHBORHOODS... 🚨

National Night Out is coming up on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, and we're looking for neighborhoods that want to throw a block party!

National Night Out is a nationwide event that reminds us that strong neighborhoods make safer neighborhoods. It's one night where people put down their phones, pull out the lawn chairs, fire up the grill, let the kids play, and get to know the people who live next door.

And the best part?

If you register your event, we'll come to you.

Once your Special Events Permit is submitted and approved, we'll do our best to stop by with officers, firefighters, EMS, and other local first responders to say hello, meet everyone, answer questions, take pictures, and let you check out the vehicles and equipment.

Hosting is easy:

🎆🚨FIREWORKS INFO FROM YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD PARTY CRASHERS 🚨🎆

We wish we didn't have to have these discussions but "Here We Are!"...it's that magical time of year when every neighborhood has at least one person who thinks they're a fireworks expert because they watched three YouTube videos. 🙄

Before we are called to your house, here's what you need to know.

🎇 You CAN legally light consumer fireworks:

📅 June 29 – July 4
🕚 11:00 AM – 11:45 PM

Those are the hours.....
-Not "close enough."
-Not "they're still doing them next door."
-Not "it's technically tomorrow somewhere."

🚫 You CAN'T light fireworks:

❌ In the street.
❌ From your vehicle.
❌ On someone else's property.
❌ In parks or other public property.
❌ From your roof.
❌ From your buddy Todd's shoulders.....(Yes...we've seen some things.)

🍺 Fireworks + Alcohol
Bad combo.

Fireworks and alcohol are a terrible combination. One makes loud noises. The other makes questionable decisions. Together...they make police reports 📝

If you've been drinking, hand the lighter to someone who hasn't.

📞 Before You Call 911...

🔥 House on fire.
🤕 Someone got hurt.
💥 Fireworks being used to intentionally endanger people.

DONT
😤 "They're loud.".....Respectfully...that's kind of the whole fireworks experience.

Want to Keep All Ten Fingers?

💧 Keep water nearby.
🚫 Don't relight duds.
🌲 Stay away from dry grass, homes, and anything else you'd rather not explain to your insurance company.
👀 Keep an eye on the kids.

And About That Famous Saying...

"It's not a party until the cops show up." Listen...we appreciate the invitation. But we'd rather catch up with you casually somewhere—not because someone yelled, "Hey, watch this!" right before everything went sideways.

On June 19, 2026, just before midnight, officers were dispatched to the area of 12th and Howard Street for a report of a felonious assault. The caller reported that a vehicle had driven through the area and that an occupant pointed a handgun at them before leaving the scene.

Officers determined early in the investigation that the suspect and the victim were known to one another and that this was an isolated incident.

Officers quickly checked the surrounding area and located the suspect vehicle near 9th and Wall Street. As officers approached, they observed the suspect exit the vehicle and attempt to quickly enter a nearby residence. Officers gave the suspect multiple commands to stop, but he refused and continued trying to enter the home. Before he was able to get inside, officers safely apprehended him and took him into custody.

During the investigation, officers observed a black semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine lying on one of the seats inside the suspect's vehicle. The firearm was recovered and secured as evidence.

The suspect was transported to the St. Clair County Jail, where he was lodged on charges of Felonious Assault.

Outstanding work by Platoon 3, whose quick response, coordinated efforts, and thorough investigation led to the safe apprehension of the suspect and the recovery of the firearm.
