Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives serving our country. 🇺🇸

Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made for the freedoms we enjoy every day and to keep the memory of our fallen heroes alive.

As you spend time with family and friends, we encourage everyone to take a moment to remember those who never made it home.

We hope everyone has a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

National Police Week is observed each year to recognize the men and women across the country who have taken an oath to serve and protect their communities, while also remembering the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Law enforcement is more than a profession — it is a commitment to service, compassion, courage, and dedication to others, often during difficult and challenging moments. During this week, we especially reflect on the sacrifices made not only by officers, but also by the families who stand beside them every day.

We would like to thank all current and retired law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and support staff who work tirelessly to keep our community safe.

To our City — thank you for your continued support, encouragement, and partnership. We are honored to serve the City of Port Huron.

Please join us this week in remembering those we have lost and recognizing those who continue to serve.

On March 21, 2026, at approximately 9:00 p.m., a traffic stop initiated by the Michigan State Police quickly turned into a foot pursuit after the driver fled on foot into a wooded area. Officers from PHPD were requested and responded to assist.

Officer Paul and K9 Axel were deployed and immediately began tracking the suspect’s path into the woods, with K9 Axel leading officers to within yards of the suspect’s location. At the same time, Officer O’Neil deployed a department drone, which confirmed a heat signature of the suspect laying down in the brush nearby.

With both ground and aerial coordination, the suspect was located and taken into custody without further incident.

🎥 The attached video includes clips from the K9 track and aerial drone footage, giving a behind-the-scenes look at how this apprehension unfolded.

Another strong example of how teamwork, K9 capabilities, and evolving technology continue to enhance our ability to safely and effectively bring situations to a close.

Great work by all involved.

The Ferris State University Excellence Award isn’t handed out lightly… and one of our own just earned it.

We are proud to recognize Officer Anthony Garska for recently being awarded the Excellence Award from Ferris State University.

Even more impressive—throughout his entire academic journey, Officer Garska has never received a grade below an “A.” That level of discipline, focus, and commitment speaks for itself.

But his story doesn’t stop in the classroom.

Officer Garska is a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served our country before returning home to serve his community. A Port Huron native, he now wears the badge in the very city that helped shape him.

From the classroom, to the Corps, to PHPD—Officer Garska continues to represent what dedication and service truly look like.

Join us in congratulating Officer Garska on this outstanding achievement.
