Queen Isabella Causeway Collapse 25th Anniversary Ceremony

September 15, 2026, marks the 25th Anniversary of the collapse of the Queen Isabella Causeway. The City of Port Isabel will host a ceremony at the Port Isabel Event Center at 11 a.m., 9/15.

You are invited to join our south Texas communities as we memorialize the staggering loss of life. And we remember the first responders, community leadership and neighbors who came together to begin a long recovery.

Ceremony followed by speakers and panelists. Refreshments. Open to the Public.

On September 15, 2001, in the early morning hours and just four days after 9/11, steel laden barges collided with the Queen Isabella Causeway causing a collapse of two sections of the bridge. Eight perished.

Activities will be offered at the Port Isabel Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage on Friday, and May 3- 8 pm. FREE drop-in activity on the Visitor Center back

UPDATE: Due to the predicted and unpredictable weather, this Thursday's Lighthouse movie date will be rescheduled for 7/24 (Friday). SpongeBob's underwater adventures should be a little bit drier then! Activities will be offered at the Port Isabel Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage on Thursday (3-5 pm) and Friday (3-8 pm).
