OFFICIAL STATEMENT REGARDING PRELIMINARY ELECTION RESULTS
JUNE 18, 2026

The Village of Port Jefferson Election Officials reported on June 16 that an initial canvass of the votes cast in the recent election had been completed.

Based upon the preliminary tabulation, a request to re-canvass was received from one of the candidates pursuant to NYS Election Law Section 15-126. A recanvass will be conducted by the Suffolk County Board of Elections on Monday, June 22, 2026.

Accordingly, while preliminary election-night and canvass totals have been reported, those figures remain unofficial pending completion of the Suffolk County Board of Elections’ recanvass and any subsequent proceedings required by law.

At this time, the Election Officials are unable to certify or declare a final outcome in the contest. The result will not be known until the Suffolk County Board of Elections completes its statutory review and certifies the final totals.

The integrity of the electoral process depends upon ensuring that every legally cast ballot is accurately counted and that all procedures mandated by New York Election Law are fully completed.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available from the Suffolk County Board of Elections

🚧 Infrastructure Improvement Notice 🚧

As part of ongoing maintenance efforts, Laser Industries will be on-site tomorrow morning removing and replacing damaged sections of concrete curbing within the Salt Meadow Lot (also known as the Rocketship Park parking lot).

Motorists and pedestrians are asked to use caution in the area and follow any temporary signage or directions from work crews.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to invest in and improve Village facilities for residents and visitors alike.

The Incorporated Village of Port Jefferson Board of Trustees Election will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM at the Port Jefferson Village Center, located at 101A East Broadway (Robert T. Strong Way).
There are two Trustee positions available and three candidates on the ballot:

Randi DeWitt
Kathianne Snaden
