This morning, nine new probationary members were sworn into the Setauket Fire Department alongside their friends and family who came out to support them on this special day.

🚤🌊 Training Never Stops! 🌊🚤

This past Wednesday, our Setauket Fire Department Marine Unit took to the Long Island Sound to participate in a multi-agency marine training exercise alongside several of our mutual aid partners.

These hands-on drills are critical to strengthening teamwork, sharpening our water rescue skills and ensuring we’re prepared to respond when emergencies happen on the water.

A huge thank you to Commissioner Roberts from the Stony Brook Fire Department for organizing and coordinating this outstanding training opportunity. We appreciate the chance to train together and continue building strong relationships with our neighboring agencies.

Local first responders trained alongside Army National Guard Pararescue Jumpers, practicing coordinated rescues from air and water.

Expect extra noise along the north shore this Wednesday evening.
Two Army National Guard helicopters will fly overhead near the Long Island Sound between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Do not panic. This is a planned joint training drill.
SBFD is staging alongside several regional marine assets. Our command post will occupy the Stony Brook Yacht Club parking lot for the duration of the exercise. You will see an increased presence of emergency vehicles and personnel in that immediate area.
We practice together today so we seamlessly execute tomorrow. Pass this notice along to your neighbors so nobody gets surprised.

Air Quality Advisory – Wednesday, July 15

The Suffolk County Department of Health is advising residents that the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Advisory for Wednesday, July 15.

Wildfire smoke from northern Canada, combined with high temperatures, is expected to create unhealthy air conditions across the region.

If possible, limit strenuous outdoor activities, especially if you are:
• Young children
• Older adults
• Exercising outdoors
• Living with asthma, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions

If you experience eye, nose, or throat irritation, shortness of breath, or chest pain, contact your healthcare provider.
