We are honored to announce that TOYX is the recipient of a 2026 Heritage Grant from the National Railway Historical Society (NRHS). We have received $5,000 towards the replacement of broken or missing windows and windowframes in our two authentic Erie Railroad cabooses, C262 and C340. This is the last major project remaining in our restoration of these two original Port Jervis artifacts, and we hope to have both cabooses completed by the end of 2026. Much thanks to the NRHS for their support!

Additionally, TOYX is happy to announce a partnership with our friends at the Erie Business Car Society to replace the missing or damaged wooden windowframes for "Dunmore" caboose C262. At the same time, EBCS will also be using the same patterns to make new windowframes for the Village of Montgomery Caboose (originally Erie "Dunmore" caboose C121). It is wonderful to be able to connect our friends and pool resources and expertise to complete so many great Erie restoration projects!

Please welcome: TOYX C380!

We have completed our cosmetic “restoration” of Erie Lackawanna caboose No. C380. This historic caboose was built in November 1970 for the Erie Lackawanna Railway and saw regular service in the Port Jervis area and throughout Orange County for a large portion of its career. It was the last caboose built for the Erie Lackawanna, and the local Middletown & New Jersey Railroad donated the car to TOYX in 2025.

In recognition of our nation’s upcoming 250th birthday, we have painted No. C380 into the same special commemorative paint scheme originally applied by the Erie Lackawanna to caboose No. C354 in 1975 for the nation’s bicentennial. The red, white, and blue No. C354 was a familiar sight for Port Jervis railroaders and railfans from 1975 to 1976, and we’re thrilled to bring this historic paint scheme back to the city 50 years later.

Thanks to Paul Tupaczewski of Prime Mover Decals for his assistance with the lettering, and to the Sherwin-Williams store in Milford, Pa. for their gracious partial donation of the paint.

This car will be available for public viewing when our museum reopens for the 2026 season on July 4, 2026 - stay tuned for updates on that event!

In the meantime, we’re going to go home and lament the fact that we still don’t have a 1:87 scale version of this caboose from Tangent Scale Models…. 😉

Step 4: Spend ANOTHER eight hours masking, an hour painting, and significantly more time fighting with insects while pulling the masking off. But hey, it’s starting to look like something that Tangent Scale Models might want to produce now!

Just gotta add black and silver and a lot of lettering….

P.S. Hey Erie Lackawanna Railroad Historical Society, when was the last time an EL logo was painted on a piece of equipment in Port Jervis?

Since our Dining Car is getting new windows, we’re left making our recipes at home, both from our vast library of dining car recipes, or in this case, supporting a partner The Danbury Railway Museum. Presenting: Firebox Wings!

1/2 bottle of Firebox Sauce
2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp lime or lemon juice
Combine and microwave for 30 seconds
Use a fork or whisk to combine.

Will do 12-15 wings depending on how much you sauce them.

Enjoy during the upcoming major sports event.
