Did you know that early voting is available this weekend? Polls are open Saturday, Oct. 24, from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. and again on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
While you are voting, you will notice that CCISD is on the ballot with a Voter Approved Tax Rate Election (VATRE) under Proposition A. The district is asking voters to consider a 3 cent increase to the CCISD M&O side of the tax rate, which ends up being just a 1/4 of a cent of an increase in this year's total CCISD tax rate, compared to last year's rate (and that's due to the I&S/bond rate going down by two cents since last year along with state compression of the rate).
CCISD is facing a $4 million budget deficit and is working through strategies to sustain district operations, despite rising costs, declining enrollment, and other financial challenges. The proposed VATRE would generate $1.5 million in annual funding to support student programs, employee compensation, and essential operations. Funds generated by the VATRE stay local and are not subject to recapture by the state.
