***Little Chocolate Bayou Restrooms Update***

The new restroom are coming along nicely and should hopefully be open soon. A small amount of finishing is needed on the inside and the ADA access needs to be completed. Just waiting on handrails and the handicap parking spot painted.

We will also be adding a bicycle parking rack and some other features soon so stay tuned!

As always Thank You for your continued patience!!

****Indian Point Update****

I started this project in 2017 shortly after I took office and during that time there’s been three different phases and two different grants part of the process. I’ve involved three different State Representatives, two Senators, our Congressman, and two different Land Commissioners. Projects of this size and time duration go through several iterations before they get to Construction. So each post about each project is accurate at the time it was posted but can change in a heartbeat when you’re depending on state and federal resources. Indian Point was one of those, it took two years, almost to the day to get the Army Corps of engineers permit. Something I’ve also been working on for the past six years is a local source of hash shell fill to match what’s naturally in the beach. We think we have some for this project but may not be enough for all of it.

With that being said, we currently have the 95% complete engineering plans for this project. Depicted below is the engineer’s outline of where the project will be situated. Where the center groin crosses the road there will be a lowered portion to allow vehicle traffic to cross. We are still hopefully slated to go out for bids this year but it is in the GLO’s hands right now waiting on approval to use locally sourced material. So once again we’re at the mercy of their timeline.

This is my longest running and largest multifaceted project that I have and there’s actually light at the end of the tunnel!

As always Thank You for your continued patience!!

*****Crabbin Bridge Update*****

It’s been a while since I’ve provided some updates but rest assured things have been moving forward in the background. (Other updates coming soon)

The attached photo is the proposed 30% plans for helping keep the Crabbin Bridge open from silting in and creating a sediment trap building up the east side of the ground on Magnolia Beach. These are the plans that will be refined and submitted to the Army Corps of engineers for permitting. *These are not the final plans*

The engineers are the same group responsible for Indian Point erosion project engineering (I’ll be providing a separate update on Indian Point) and are designing to work in conjunction with each other protecting Magnolia Beach and in theory trapping sediment on the beach.

Thank you for your continued patience. These projects take many years to come to the construction phase.

Funding for this project is provided by the Matagorda Bay Mitigation Trust and is from the initial settlement and direct allocation of funds for Magnolia Beach.

A tropical wave in the Bay of Campeche is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. This disturbance is forecast to move northwestward through Friday. Some development of this system is possible before reaching northeastern Mexico or South Texas late Friday. Regardless of development, increased rain chances are expected Friday and Saturday along with increasing rip current risk this weekend. We will continue to provide updates as conditions warrant so be sure to monitor the forecast over the next couple of days.
