Opossum release!
Check out the blog and photographs by Chet Gottfried. Some of these opossums were miracle babies. We have some every year, that should not have made it, but survived against all odds. They were the size of a human thumb...very tiny and helpless. Their mother was hit by a car and the babies were orphaned. But with the expert care of our staff, they thrived. Thank you all who helped rescue, rehabilitate and release these sweet little opossums.

Broad-wing hawk release.
A few weeks ago, we received two different broad wing hawks that were found along the road bumped by a car at different locations. They completely recovered, but we were worried about migration time and fortunately we did not miss the migration. We were able to release them back out into the wild, to continue their migration to central or south America. Broad-winged hawks are in the same family, buteo, as a red-tailed hawk, but smaller. In fact, broad-winged hawks are the smallest hawk in the buteo family in North America. Thank you to the rescuers, and our staff who cared for the birds and released them back out into the wild.
It really does take a village.

Our New Hours
We are now open from 11 am to 7 pm, 7 days a week. We have added staff during these hours to handle admissions of orphaned, injured, and compromised wild animals.
Additional Drop-Off Location
You can also drop off wild animals at Keystone Veterinary Care:
• Address: 1500 N. Atherton Street, State College
• Drop-off hours: 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday
Why We Are Changing Our Hours
At any given time, we may have hundreds of animals in our care, including several critical care patients. The new schedule gives our staff:
• Time first thing in the morning to care for our most vulnerable patients and complete important chores
• More availability between 11 am and 7 pm to help with new admissions

Day of Caring 2026... Thank you to the Catholic daughters of America for their help cleaning cages and staining. And thank you to Skills for stopping by and picking up our recycling. It was a productive day, with wonderful people and beautiful weather. It really does take a village.

In honor of raccoon appreciation day, here are a few photos of a recent raccoon release. These were orphan babies that arrived during the summer and once they were weaned and vaccinated, they were released in a remote location. , , , ,
