๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ Today, we recognize Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorating June 19, 1865 โ€” the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

Juneteenth is a reminder of the importance of freedom, equality, and unity within our communities. As we reflect on this significant day, we remain committed to serving our community with fairness, respect, and professionalism while continuing to build partnerships that strengthen trust and understanding.

We encourage everyone to take a moment to learn more about the history and significance of Juneteenth and recognize the importance of unity and respect within our communities.

Today, the Port Orchard and Silverdale offices will be closed to the public in observance of this national holiday.

A man who works with the South Kitsap School District's childcare program was taken into custody following a search warrant served by the Kitsap County Sheriffโ€™s Office on June 17.

The warrant, executed in the Port Orchard area, relates to the possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Detectives learned of the suspect's employment earlier this week. Due to safety concerns regarding his position, the search warrant was executed at the earliest possible opportunity, and the arrest was made without incident.

At this time, there is no indication that any children enrolled in the childcare program were victims.

Detectives seized multiple items of evidence during the service of the warrant, and the investigation remains ongoing.

(Clarification: The South Kitsap School District states: "the person in custody is not an employee of South Kitsap School District. They are solely an employee of Innovation.")
