It is a great honor and privilege to have been selected as the Interim Sheriff of Kitsap County.

I want to thank Commissioners Oran Root, Katie Walters, and Christine Rolfes for entrusting me with this responsibility. I am excited to return to the agency where I proudly served for more than 31 years and to help lead KCSO through this important transition.

I also want to express my deepest gratitude and respect for Chief Penelope Sapp for her remarkable leadership over the past several weeks as your Acting Sheriff. I have long felt that KCSO has been very fortunate to have an employee of Penny’s caliber on our team, and it has certainly shown. As a citizen, colleague, and friend, she has my deepest appreciation and admiration for taking on such an important role and “knocking it out of the park!”

I am especially honored to be working alongside Chief Brandon Myers and Chief Jeffrey Menge, both strong leaders who have worked tirelessly with Acting Sheriff Sapp to keep KCSO moving forward during this transition. I am proud to lead this team as we continue that momentum.

I can assure you that the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office is moving forward. We are fortunate in Kitsap County to have a dedicated and professional team of men and women at KCSO who come to work every day and continue to perform at the highest level our citizens deserve. This is why it was so easy for me to come out of retirement for this assignment. I know the quality and caliber of the people at KCSO, and together, we will continue to provide the highest level of service possible to our community.

While my tenure will be brief, as I will step aside when the new Sheriff is elected in November, it will not be inconsequential. We will address the issues of budget, staffing, and service levels head-on. My goal is to ensure that the agency remains in a strong and stable position until a smooth and successful transition can be made to the next permanent administration.

It is my honor and privilege to serve as your Interim Sheriff. I will work hard every day to ensure the continued success and advancement of this great agency and the people we are privileged to serve.

📚🚌 SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION! 🚌📚

As students head back to school, we’re reminding everyone to slow down, stay alert, and watch for children, school buses, and pedestrians.

🚍 School Bus Safety
• Stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended.
• Never pass a stopped school bus.
• Give buses plenty of room when they are loading and unloading students.

🚸 School Zones
• Slow down and obey posted school-zone speed limits.
• Watch carefully for students crossing streets and entering or exiting vehicles.
• Put your phone down and keep your attention on the road.

A few extra seconds of patience can make a lifetime of difference. Let’s work together to make sure every student gets to and from school safely. 💙

Welcome back, students! Have a safe and successful school year! 🍎📓

Please join us in recognizing our K9 team: Milo, Echo, Bumper, Odin, George, Andy, and Ivy! And our newest K9 still in training, Raven!🐾

These incredible K9s work alongside their handlers to help keep our community safe. From tracking and searching to detecting and assisting during critical incidents, their dedication, skill, and loyalty make them an invaluable part of our team.

We’re grateful for all they do—and for the handlers who care for, train, and work alongside them every day.
