Firefighters in the North Curry area just completed the classroom portion of a 15 week long certified "Firefighter 1" course! These volunteers have put in countless hours and incredible effort into completing this course and they all passed with flying colors. Sixes Fire hosted the class and had nine firefighters finish. We were very excited to have our neighbors, Port Orford and Langlois Fire participate and they each had two firefighters complete the class as well. Great work everyone!

The city of Port Orford will be following Coos Forest, protective association rules throughout fire season.

Although we are not in fire season yet, the weather is getting warmer and dryer. We are asking the public to please use caution when burning outdoors. By using these tips to practice safe debris burning you can help prevent an accidental wildfire.

- Keep water and tools nearby
-Dont burn on dry windy days
-Dont leave your debris burn unattended
-Make sure your fire is completely out and cool to the touch before you leave.

There is no set date for fire season to start in the Coos Forest Protective Association district for 2026 as of yet.
