It is fitting that long-time community member Thelma Belcher won the beautiful quilt titled “Pillars of our Community.” The raffle raised funds to help renovate the Port Orford Community Complex. Another lucky winner was Joyce Hodge who won the second quilt raffle—a symphony of blues titled “Stack and Whack.” Special thanks to master quilter Vicki Young who is a member of the Community Center Complex committee.

Also - special thanks to the winner of this same quilt in 2018 who donated it back to allow the quilt to raise even more money toward the effort.

FAMILY FUN DAY POSTPONED YET STILL A SUCCESS DUE TO GENEROUS DONORS

As the wind blows and the rain falls, it’s hard to remember we almost celebrated summer with Family Fun Day at Buffington Park on September 4. Due to the resurgence of COVID, we had to postpone the fundraising event, but a whole bunch of very generous people said, “keep the donation and use it when you reschedule.” Such a show of support moves projects forward, no matter the odds. So all of us involved with the Community Center Renovation Project thank the following individuals and businesses.

Thompson Tree Service, Gold Beach Lumber, Bandon Crossings, Battle Rock Coffee, Salty Dawg, NorCal Seafood, Rick Cook Gallery, Tree Wizard Gallery, Sea Crest Motel, ‘Neath the Wind Realty, Dragonfly Farm & Nursery, Happy Tails, Tasty Kate’s, Port Orford Coop, WildSprings Guest Habitat, South Coast Express L**e, Port Side Market & Deli, Port Side Café, Vagabond Properties, Redfish Restaurant, South Coast Tours, Sea Breeze Florist, The Quilt Shop, Sharon Strong DMD, Vital Current Yoga and Massage, REMAX, One Lump or Two, Uptown Frame Shop, Ray’s Food Place, Mr.Ed’s, Coos Curry Supply, Golden Harvest, B&B Farm Supply, Port Orford RV Village, Phyllis Johns, John Hewitt, Susan Russell, Elise Crosby, Eric Shapiro.

COMING SOON - FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!!!

Watch for a new date (original date postponed due to COVID) so you won’t miss Family Fun at Buffington Park. This day of golf, games, food and music is put on by the Port Orford Community Center Fund Raising Committee and the Port Orford Rotary Club.

The fun starts at 11am when the first group tees off at the putt-putt golf tourney. Just $25 to enter and that includes grilled hamburger lunch with chips and cookies. This course is so tough you might win a prize just for finishing. The lunch will be available to non-golfers for just $7/person.

Games will include Corn Hole Toss and KP (closest to the pin) along with Pickleball lessons and a Karate demonstration. There will be super prizes for almost everything.

The fun winds down by 3pm when you gather your prizes and smiles, knowing you helped your community while having a whale of a good time. See you there! For updates about this event, visit portorfordcommunitycenter.org.

Put Your Best Foot Forward

We’ve discovered a very worthwhile way to raise funds to renovate the Port Orford Community Center—an Athletic Shoe Drive! It’s easy, just check out your closets for new or gently worn athletic shoes you no longer need or want. Then put them in any one of the colorful drop boxes around Port Orford: Port Orford Public Library, TJ’s Restaurant, Melba’s Beauty Parlor, and Buddha’s Wellness Center.

Ask your friends, family, and neighbors to donate their shoes—only athletic ones, please!

All kinds and sizes of athletic shoes are welcome; from kids to adults, from old fashioned tennis to the latest jogging footwear.

We are working with Angel Bins, a company that recycles, washes and exports the shoes to people who need them.

Get footloose and help build the Port Orford Community Center Complex.

We have topped $100,000 toward our $1.5 million goal. We are on our way, and you can help by putting your best foot forward.

Going Up

This charming Money Meter painted by Karen Auborn is on it’s way up to the $1.5 million we need to create the new Port Orford Community Center Complex. Thanks to many generous donations, we are nearly at the $100,000 mark. Once we are all on the other side of this virus crisis, we will begin fundraising again, starting with Gong Night, where America’s Got Talent meets the old Gong Show. We have some wonderful and wacky talent all lined up. We’ll keep you posted.
