Residents & Visitors can sign up for emergency notifications through local emergency management systems like ALERT GULF. Alert Gulf is a mass notification system that allows our staff to provide Gulf County residents and visitors with timely alerts. Sign up by entering your contact information and subscribing to notifications of interest. The information provided is protected and will not be used for any other purpose.

How It Works:
Emergency notifications will be issued when there are imminent threats to life, health, and safety in Gulf County. This can include, but is not limited to, severe weather events, hazardous material emergencies, and evacuation orders. This service allows you to opt-in to receive notifications via text message, email or phone call.

Help us in Congratulating Fire Chief Mike Barrett on his retirement. South Gulf Volunteer Fire Chief Mike Barrett will retire on September 8th after nearly fifty years of service. Chief Barrett served the City of Dallas Texas Fire Department before retiring and moving to Cape San Blas. Chief Barrett has been a dedicated member of South Gulf Fire Rescue for the past decade . As Fire Chief for the past five years the department has excelled in the service it provides the community. Included in his list of accomplishments was being named the Florida Fire Chief’s Association Fire Chief of the year in 2023. Gulf County appreciates Chief Barrett’s dedication, professionalism, and leadership. Job well done Chief Barrett.

🌀07/22 1115 Hours - Gulf County is still feeling the effects of Tropical Storm Bertha. Gulf County is under a wind advisory (gusts possible of 40+ mph) small craft advisory, and high surf advisory. The potential for life threatening rip currents and dangerous surf is possible along all panhandle area beaches.

🌀07/21 0700 Hours - The National Hurricane Center has upgraded Tropical Depression Two into Tropical Storm Bertha. Forecasts believe Bertha should remain southwest of Gulf County. However, peripheral impacts to Gulf County will be life-threatening rip currents, dangerous surf, localized beach erosion, minor coastal flooding, and offshore impacts in the form of large waves and strong winds. Additionally bands of heavy rain will continue to affect Gulf County into Tuesday and Wednesday bringing the potential for localized flooding.

07/19 - The National Hurricane Center has issued the first advisory for Tropical Depression Two. The depression is moving toward the north-northwest near 2 mph and a slow northwestward or north-northwestward motion is expected during the next day or two, followed by a turn toward the west. On the forecast track, the depression will move near or along the northern Gulf coast during the next several days. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the Western portions of Florida.

06/04 - A Controlled Burn on the Apalachicola River Wildlife and Environmental Area (ARWEA) today is the cause for all the smoke and ash. The Burn is being conducted by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Smoke is visible from HWY 71, Dalkeith, Howard Creek, & White City. Ash has been reported falling in White City and Windmark.
