๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿš— As we age, changes in muscle and bone strength can affect how easily we control our vehicle, like steering, braking, or turning to check blind spots.

The good news is that simple range can help improve flexibility, reduce joint stiffness, and support safer, more comfortable driving.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) plans to open the new S.R. A1A North Causeway Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW) to traffic by 8 a.m. (subject to change) on Friday, May 15, 2026, weather permitting, and marks a major milestone for the St. Lucie County community.

The new high-level fixed bridge replaces the existing drawbridge and provides a more reliable connection between S.R. A1A and U.S.1/S.R. 5, improving operations for vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and marine traffic. The structure spans the Florida East Coast (FEC) Railroad, County Road (C.R.) 605/Old Dixie Highway, and the ICWW, eliminating bridge openings for marine traffic and reducing delays for motorists. Motorists traveling along U.S. 1/S.R. 5 can access C.R. 605/Old Dixie Highway via Juanita Avenue. Motorists traveling along C.R. 605/Old Dixie Highway can access northbound and southbound U.S. 1/S.R. 5 via Juanita Avenue or northbound U.S. 1/S.R. 5 only via Sunny Lane.

The spotlight was on safety in Port Saint Lucie as the FDOT Crossing Guard Training Program filmed new computer training modules featuring our incredible City of Port St. Lucie Police Department Crossing Guards. These computer training programs will be taken by every crossing guard across the state as a prerequisite to more formal training, helping to ensure consistency and safety standards statewide.

Crossing Guards play a vital role in keeping students safe every single day, and we are proud our local Port St. Lucie Crossing Guards will be showcased by FDOT on a statewide level.
