is a 24-hour law enforcement agency made up of the jail division, patrol division, detective bureau, emergency management division, and county-wide dispatch center. The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office (OZSO) expects all participants on social media, including county employees, other representatives, and users, to show respect and civility when posting comments or information. Posts or comments on Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office-managed social media sites containing any of the following inappropriate content are not permitted and may be removed by the Sheriff or their designee.
• Profane, obscene, discriminatory, or pornographic content and/or language;
• Comments not related to the original topic, including random or unintelligible
comments;
• Discrimination based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, or similar
factors;
• Content that could compromise an ongoing investigation;
• Personal identifying information of any individual, except as permitted under the
Freedom of Information Act;
• Defamatory or personal attacks;
• Threats directed at any person or organization;

Happy Labor Day from the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office!

Today is about taking a well-earned break, enjoying the last stretch of summer, and spending time with family and friends.

Whether your plans include firing up the grill 🌭, heading to the lake 🚤, tackling one last summer project 🔨, or doing absolutely nothing (a highly underrated activity 😎), we hope you have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day!

And while many are enjoying the day off, a special thank you to our deputies, dispatchers, jail staff, first responders, healthcare workers, and everyone else working today to keep our community safe and running smoothly.

Enjoy the holiday, celebrate responsibly, buckle up, and please designate a sober driver. Happy Labor Day!

These entrepreneurs were selling lemonade to save up for swim lessons. What a responsible way to spend the money they earned!

Let's give a big welcome to Deputy Ethan Beardsley, Deputy Keshawn Mitchell and Deputy Regina Rodriguez, our newest Jail Deputies.

Sheriff Knowles had the pleasure of swearing in our new deputies in front of their families and friends.

Each have taken an oath to uphold our State and County laws. They each come with their own experiences excited to take on the new challenges as deputies with our office.

Best of luck to Dep. Beardsley, Dep. Mitchell and Dep. Rodriguez! We're excited for your future with the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office!

We found another lemonade stand and the kids were excited to see us!🍋

Sgt. Ronan and Dep. Thompson stopped by to have a cold cup of lemonade which made these kids' day.🧃

Yet another chance to connect with our youth in a positive way and we enjoyed every minute of it!💙

It's back to school time! Which means a quick review of school bus safety.🚍

When a vehicle approaches a stopped school bus with its 🚨RED emergency lights activated, the vehicle MUST stop in both directions.

If the bus is on a divided highway such as STH 57, vehicles going the opposite direction are not required to stop. Vehicles traveling the same direction in both lanes of traffic MUST stop for the bus.

Let's all do our part to make sure students arrive to school and home safely. 🚶🚶‍♀️

Recently Deputy Navis responded to a vehicle in a ditch. When he arrived there were several local high school students waiting on the side of the road.

After Dep. Navis' investigation, it was determined the driver was reaching behind her seat for something that fell on the floor, lost control of the vehicle and went into the ditch.

This was the first time any of these girls had police contact. The driver was clearly upset and scared. Dep. Navis took this opportunity as a teaching moment to explain inattentive driving, issued the driver a warning and let the girls on their way to their birthday party.

What came next was the feel good part. As the vehicle was set to be towed, Dep. Navis noticed the birthday gift was left in the backseat. Dep. Navis drove the gift to the party and got all smiles from the girls.

What was a scary, upsetting situation for a young driver who has never had law enforcement contact turned into a positive experience for her and her friends.

Something as small as a Deputy driving a gift to a party left a positive impact on a group of girls whose night did not start the way they were hoping.

Some might think who cares but these little things are what deputies do daily trying to make a law enforcement contact positive. This is an example of community policing at it's best!

Well done Dep. Navis! And thank you to the girls for sharing their story.

A big THANK YOU to Rule 1 Carvings for the beautiful accreditation plaque! It is proudly displayed in our Dispatch Center.

Earlier this year, the Ozaukee County Dispatch Center was awarded re-accreditation for the outstanding emergency medical dispatching they provide to the Ozaukee County community.

With extensive training and policy review, this is not an easy feat; however, our Dispatchers do an outstanding job 24/7 helping provide the necessary resources to a person in need.

A job well done by our Dispatchers!

Our Ozaukee County Emergency Management rescue boat was busy this weekend, as they have been all summer.

The rescue boat is a valuable resource for the County and for people who use Lake Michigan. Rescue Boat personnel assist boaters in medical or mechanical emergencies, to include capsized boats which was the case this past weekend.

Remember to always have a life jacket, a working boat and a full tank of gas if you go out on Lake Michigan. You never know what you will encounter when on Lake Michigan!

The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office recently recognized David Opanga for his service to our community. He was issued the Sheriff’s Office Citizen Appreciation Coin.

On July 13, 2026, David Opanga reported an elderly man was being scammed out of $5000. David is a Lyft driver, and a ride was requested for an individual at a Town of Cedarburg address. When he arrived, David said the homeowner provided him with a package and told him he needed to take the package to a lawyer at the courthouse in West Bend as his wife was arrested. He told David there was $5000 in the package.

David took the package and contacted the ride requestor who told him to take the package to an address in Madison, not West Bend as advised by the homeowner, and for doing this, David was supposed to take a large tip from the package for himself. David realized this was a scam and drove the package back to the residence. Once there, David told the man this was a scam, returned the package and contacted the Sheriff’s Office.

David Opanga’s actions embodies the values of courtesy, respect, teamwork and cooperation. David went out of his way to return a large amount of money to an individual he did not know and reported the scam to law enforcement.

These types of scams are increasing, and David was able to stop this individual from becoming another victim of this senseless act.

REMEMBER - Law Enforcement will never ask you to bring cash anywhere or to a box store to have money wired. If you are unsure about what is being asked of you, tell the person you will contact your local law enforcement to verify their information. They will try to stop you but we WANT you to call us! It doesn't matter if they say they are an officer, or that you didn't show up for jury duty, or that a loved one is in jail. Hang up and call your local law enforcement. THIS IS A SCAM!
