EMS is one of the toughest jobs out there. It’s unpredictable and demanding. While it has long been seen as a male-dominated field, women continue to prove that skill, strength, and leadership know no gender.

This International Women’s Day we recognize the women who have helped shape EMS-from early pioneers to the providers serving today. In our department, more than half of our members are women, whose dedication, compassion, and expertise raise the bar for everyone around them.

We’re proud to work alongside them. Happy International Women’s Day! 🚑💪

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ex-Captain David Fenton, an exempt member and former Captain of Fire Medic Co. 1. David’s passing has been classified as a line of duty death related to his FDNY EMS service at the World Trade Center on and after September 11, 2001.

David joined FMCO in 1980 and dedicated 23 years to the PWFD, holding multiple leadership roles, and serving in every line officer rank through Captain. He also proudly served the City of New York as an EMS Lieutenant and Captain and was a respected instructor in Incident Command and Mass Casualty Management.

In the aftermath of 9/11, David spent four straight months at the World Trade Center site, leading and supporting operations with the calm, steady presence he was known for. He loved this job, led with quiet confidence, and as a volunteer, left FMCO better than he found it ❤️

Please keep his wife, son, and the entire Fenton family, as well as all who had the honor of serving alongside him, in your thoughts and prayers. Service details will be shared when available.

This afternoon, members of the Port Washington Fire Department joined the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office for a walk-out ceremony honoring arson-accelerant K9 Leah.

After nine years of dedicated service, Leah is retiring. We wish her a long, well-earned retirement and send our best to her fur brother, Chuck, as he steps into her role. 🐾

We also congratulate her handler, PWFD Ex-Chief Matt Kerin, on this special milestone!

Thank you, K9 Leah, for your service! 🫡🤩
